Captain D’s is up for sale
The Captain D’s Seafood Kitchen restaurant chain is up for sale, according to this story from Tennessean.com.
I live fairly close to the Captain D’s in Kettering, located in a high-profile piece of real estate at the corner of East Dorothy Lane and Wilmington Pike, but haven’t eaten there in quite a while. The Captain D’s web site also lists other locations in the Dayton area and southwest Ohio, including 109 North Springboro Pike near the Dayton Mall, 6380 Brandt Pike in Huber Heights, and in Middletown (804 South Breiel Boulevard) and Fairfield (490 Nilles Road) as well.
The Nashville-based chain has 537 locations, according to The Tennessean. There’s no indication whether the company has potential buyers in mind or what impact a sale of the chain could have on Dayton-area Captain D’s.

Well the Captain D’s near the mall is gone, I mean plowed under in a day. One minute it was there and the next it was gone. I do miss Arthur Treacher’s but the best Fish and Chips I had was in Leeds England, All I can say is beef drippings, mushy pee’s and gravy. Yum :-)

Captain D’s has inched their prices up and their portion sizes WAY down. I just ate at the Wilmington Pk. location and I was shocked at how minuscule the standard fish pieces were. I ordered a cup of gumbo, which they cheaped out on with a massive cake of rice on top of a tiny serving of gumbo to make the cup look full. Their value has become very questionable.

Hope that none of their stores close when and if the chain is sold as their quality far surpasses what is now called Long John Silver’s……LJS used to be pretty decent before being bought out by the Yum Brands conglomerate which has ruined several chains now…….Miss the old original Arthur Treacher’s when they used to have several in the area and around the country, and while reminiscing about old seafood places, how about London Bobby fish and chips and the old H. Salt chain around town, I believe London Bobby was ran by Cassano’s at one point in time before their untimely demise many, many years ago now………..

I live in the Youngstown-Warren metro area and know of at least 4 Arthur Treacher’s still operating here. I believe they started in this area before spreading out.

There are still Arthur treacher’s out there. I know there is one in Lancaster, and I think a few more in Ohio. In florida, Arthur Treacher’s shares a space with Kenny Rogers Roasters, Nathan’s and a sub place called Miami Subs.

Not a chance of another Arthur Treachers. The founder and president passed away in 2006 and there are no more operating units. Good time to dump the facilities as the industrialized overfishing of the seas has made the supply of fish very doubtful beyond 2012. I too wish that Treacher’s was still around.

Go try the “Country Style’ fish. It is about the best fried fish I’ve ever had at any restaurant, Fast food or not. It’s cooked with yellow corn meal. Trust me on this one…

Just to clarify: The story reports that the chain is up for sale, and does not report that any Captain D’s are closing or are targeted for closing.

I live near the Kettering location as well but have never eaten there. I hate seeing another empty building in Kettering…

The food isn’t bad, a little pricey for fast food. There are so many fast food joints around, not sure if it will be missed, acepted by the regular customers.

For a fast food restaurant, Captain D’s seafood is pretty good. Definitely much better than Long John Silver’s…Steve-Dave mentioned Arthur Treacher’s. I remember when there was an Arthur Treacher’s in the area several years ago. They had some excellent fish and chips. I wish they would build another restaurant in the Dayton area.

@ Jed: I would doubt you know anything about Stalin, considering you can’t even spell businesses and illegal right.

Captain D’s blows long gone silver out of the water. Good Riddance and NYC are probably thesame people who voted to ban smoking in the bars and they never go to bars anyway. MYOB, if you don’t like it don’t eat you bloody clowns.

@nyc: Hitler and Stalin would be very proud of your anti-American view. In a free society, something you obviously don’t support, we are free to chose what and where we eat and do not need the likes of ppl like you wanting to make a perfectly acceptable buisiness illegle. Have a nice day.

I don’t dine there a lot, but they are reasonable, have a good range of products and I’ve never failed to have a tasty meal there. Cpt D’s is certainly better than the cheap-tasting grease-sponges served at Long John Silver’s! Until The Pub opened at The Greene, Capt D’s was the closest I could get to anything close to the taste of fish’n’chips from a “chippy” - an important find for a British ex-pat!

Horrible food laden with enough sodium to give you heart disease. Won’t miss it when it goes under. Let’s hope the same for Long John Silver

I have been trying for years to get them to build a store in Beavercreek, but they don’t seem to be interested. Maybe if another company buys the francise, they will do it. Years ago there was one in Fairborn, at five points, and it was said that because Long Johns Silvers was right up the street, they weren’t allowed to be there and they were closed down before they really ever opened. I never have understood that.

The store on Needmore has been closed for several years now. I used to eat there a lot. It was better than Logn John Silver’s and the prices were lower.

They at least serve other than deep fried seafood which is more than I can say for Long John Slivers. Their broiled dishes are tasty and it is difficult for a diabetic to find a sea food restaurant that is tolerable. Too bad…

Ate at the one on Wilmington last week. It was very tasty. I would hate to see it go.
