New Voltzy’s Root Beer Stand opens today

MORAINE — Voltzy’s Root Beer Stand is scheduled to open this morning, Aug.4, at 11 a.m. at 4668 Springboro Pike.

The root beer stand was built adjacent to the trailer from which Voltzy’s ownwer Rick Volz has been serving lunch in the parking lot of Kastle Electric at 4501 Kettering Blvd. The new permanent structure will allow Volz to extend his hours: The root beer stand will be open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

The new restaurant is a throwback to the 1950s-era root beer stands and will feature carhop service. Picnic tables also are available for dining al fresco. In the winter, carhop service and dinner hours will phase out and diners will be able to order in a foyer at lunchtime.

The expanded menu will continue to include Voltzy’s signature hamburgers and soups but will now also include fries, onion rings, chicken strips, deep-fried pickles, deep-fried hot dogs and other items, including Frostop root beer and ice cream floats.

For more information, call (937) 299-1440.

Just wondering if Rick Rory Mays is someone I once knew. The Rory Mays I knew was an owner in Goldenrod Records and was going to go to Mexico with my husband Nick and I. Looking forward 2 Volz’s hamburgers. Dayton needs a place that can cook a decent hamburger.

Driver8: I’m sorry you found Voltzy’s closed when you went there. The hours reported in the blog entry and newspaper story came directly from Voltzy himself and the menu he was distributing. Perhaps he or a regular customer can let us know of the revised hours …

The hours stated in this article are WRONG! He’s not open on Sundays, and he closes at 7:45— NOT 9:30! Because of this article, I got screwed out of a Voltzy’s meal tonight!

holy s**t! my double voltzy on opening day was a uniform (circle) size. but sadly the meat was dry. the trick is to make sure rick is on the griddle. some high school geek did mine, and he is thus not so knowledgeable regarding when to take the burger OFF the griddle…

had lunch there today, Voltzy was in the back cooking, and there were a bunch of high school girls as servers. they are cute, but the rude ‘tude of the old dude, that I missed. I really suggest the menke off the menu. good stuff

With the expanded building, maybe he will start serving that awesome soup when it’s above 40 degrees. The cabbage roll is my favorite.

When I got back from Afghanistan, Voltzy’s was the FIRST place on my list to go eat. I missed the food and the banter from my friend! Good luck with the new place, the root beer rocks!

As far as I know, he’s not from NYC. Of course, I’m going to go with the people who actually have been there and know what they’re talking about as opposed to someone who never lets the facts get in the way of what they they is going on.

Haven’t been there, so don’t know for sure, but perhaps he’s just from NYC. People around here sometimes mistake NYC ‘tude for rudeness, when it’s not meant that way. When you have a lot of people to serve, you tend to get to the point quickly. Good luck with the Root Beer Stand!

Voltzy’s… The owner is rude, the help is just like him, the food is messy… Man, I can’t wait to get back there! My kids are gonna be thrilled also! (Now I have to repay my co-worker - she bought last time…)

I’ve been waiting months for you to open the new stand. What the he(ck) took so long? Fine dining it isn’t. Enjoyable dining it is. Maybe ostrich can come back on the menu too, eh?
