Tumbleweed files for bankruptcy, will continue to operate

The Tumbleweed Southwest Grill chain of restaurants — which has locations in Kettering, Englewood and Springfield as well as several in the Cincinnati area — has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.

As the story notes, under Chapter 11, a company is able to continue operating while it seeks to work out new arrangements with its creditors. The president of the company told the Courier-Journal there are no plans to close restaurants or lay off employees during the bankruptcy. He said there will be no changes to menus or daily operations.

Louisville-based Tumbleweed Southwest Grill operates 37 restaurants in the U.S., including 23 in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana that are company-owned and which are part of the bankruptcy, the Courier-Journal said.

ADIOS, tumbleweed!!!! Your hamburgers are terrible since your only choice of how they are cooked are well done. And the prices are outragous for quantity and quality of food.Won’t be sad to see you go!!

My family used to eat there all the time, but like the others said, their service and food quality declined. It had nothing to do with the economy, no smoking, etc. It was strictly quality.

I can’t find really any decent steak place around here. The steaks are always dry and tasteless no matter how I order it. Grub Steak has really gone down hill recently too in my opinion!

Buckhorn Tavern is the best steakhouse around. That place is the flippity flap, crackity crack, shiznitle smack.

I was just talking about how bad the experience was last time my family was there. I thought they messed up and gave my husband the kids portion of ribs.

If you really want a good steak with all the trimmings and getting the best band out of your buck…go to the LOCAL places! Grub Steak, Oakwood Club, Pine Club, Old Hickory, Buckhorn, need I go on? Place like that will out cook the “steakhouse chains” any day of the week, and it’s WORTH the money! Support them, people!

If you want a good steak you should go to Northwood Hills Country Club on Villa Road. What a hidden jewel, you have got to go there!! They have fantastic steaks and the restaurant is open to the public!

Well Dayton still has Grub Steak, Oakwood Club and many other fine places to go. Someone in Dayton radio, should do what Brian Thomas of Cincy,55KRC morning show does. Every other Thursday, he picks a MOM and POP place, in Cincy/Northern Ky to have lunch at. Those who listen to him all meet and have a great time. I have been to two of these and the food at these places are GREAT! Not a typical Sports Bar, just down home great food. NO Chains..Worth the drive . Yeah Dayton radio sucks if I tune in Cincy stations..

To zaxl and Jim: Locally owned, independent restaurants? What are those? I thought they went extinct along with locally owned banks.

Go to Hyde’s in Hamilton. Porterhouse, Strip Sirloin, Ribeye, BBQ Ribs on Saturday. Been there for over 60 years! Love the place!

Here’s an idea, eat at locally owned, independent restaurants. Keep your money in our local economy. These people WILL listen to your comments and work hard for your return business, because their livelihood depends on it.

Havd been eating there since they first opened and they have slowly but surely been declining in their food (quality and quantity), service and overall management. A couple of weeks ago as I looked around on the way out the door I told my wife they look like they are on their final throes…..low and behold I was right. A good steakhouse has to be just that “GOOD” ro survive.

The Engleweed store always has great food. However, it does seem a little pricey for what you get, so I don’t eat there very often. Everyone should just stay home and grill out.

Hey Oldtimer: where’s YOUR comment on the topic? Looks like you’re just another “idiot” as you like to call us. I wrote to the CEO and told them what was good/what wasn’t. He mostly made excuses. They always had a new manager, new servers, prices going up and quality going down. Doesn’t take a genius to know you can’t succeed with that sort of formula. That’s the beauty of the free market which Obama wants to replace with the Federal Trough.

Been a sinking ship for years let lazy management take over, and the good managers were smart enough to leave. All you can eat ribs on weds. to burritos’ instead. How’d that work out? To the rest of the employees who struggled with them, jump ship while there’s a couple restuarants hiring.

This place needed a lot of love and energy for years. The managers at every level had no vision. You have to know what America desires. Clueless at the helm. The ship sails into the rocks. Man over-board!

In the food business, you either put out an atmosphere and product the customer likes OR you die on the vine. Tumbleweed just didn’t meet the criteria for our family and friends.

We used to go to the one in Kettering about once a week, but their service and food quality changed. I can see why people don’t go there much anymore.

I can tell you why you are going into bankruptcy. we use to eat there every Sunday then you changeyour ribs from 6 to 3 and didn’t lower the price. You do not get what you pay for at your restaurant. Thank you for listening.
