Restaurants welcome Christmas Day diners
For the full list of restaurant holiday hours and special events that includes New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, click here.
Here’s a list of Dayton-area restaurants that have sent me emails or posted comments on this Taste food and dining page about their plans to be open and serving on Christmas Day. Feel free to post a comment to let us know about any others that missed our earlier solicitations.
— Kohinoor Palace, 39 S. Springboro Pike in Miamisburg (southwest corner of the Ohio 725-Ohio 741 intersection by the Dayton Mall), will be open Christmas day from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and then from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call (937) 723-9014.
— McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant, 4429 Cedar Park Drive at The Greene in Beavercreek, will be open Christmas Day from noon to 9 p.m. For more information, call (937) 431-9200.
— Starlite Diner Restaurant, 4090 Wilmington Ave. across from Meijer’s gas station in Kettering, will be open Christmas Day from 6.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. For more information call (937) 293-4000.
In addition, some sports bars/taverns let us know they’ll be opening in the late afternoon or early evening of Christmas Day, including Fricker’s (multiple locations), Norton’s in Kettering, and Tank’s in Dayton.
For carryout, Dayton-area Domino’s Pizza stores, various locations, will be open regular hours Christmas Day. Also, check the Miami Valley Restaurant Association’s list of restaurants that are open on Christmas Day, which includes a couple of eateries — Champp’s Americana in Washington Twp. and Mr. Lee’s in Vandalia — that did not put themselves on the DDN Taste list.
All in all, it looks like there’s no good excuse not to eat, drink and be merry on Christmas Day …

I’m glad for the smoking ban. I wouldn’t go into a restaurant where there is cigarette smoke. I am going out to eat on Christmas this year. Not sure where, though. One of those on the list - maybe Starlite.

My small family is going out to eat on Christmas day. It’s so hard to find a place that’s open so I really appreciate this list. I think we’re going to Mr. Lee’s like we did last year. Then we’re going to a movie.

I wouldn’t eat at any of these restraunts due to the smoking ban. I will stay home and be free to do as I please while I can. How long this will last, we don’t know because Big Brother is coming! Call your state rep and repeal the smoking ban!!!

N Alexander, joke right? I know that many non American (ethnic) restaurants will open. I get it. I also know first hand they are disappointed with the results. People stay home. Some open thinking everyone else will be closed therefore they will make more money. For some it is a cultural adjustment. But volunteer to work/ Volunteer is free, isn’t it? I don’t think that is happening. If yo can’t stand your family and want to Volunteer then maybe the Salvation Army, Polen Farms or even St Vincents would be good options to mix with some non relatives. Or you can always go to a strip bar LOL from the posting from mrs_mak, maybe …no this is too easy :))but if I go I will be sure to hi to your sister.

Dear N. Alexander, if you can’t stand your family, try this. Let the grumps go watch tv, put the kids in a room with their new toys. Let the women chat and clean up the mess from the grumps & the kids. Still nothing to do. Visit a homeless shelter and spend some time with those who would love to have cranky relatives, food and a place to go.

Stump, why would they need to give overtime? Most places that have employees working today work using people that volunteer to go in that day. Some people have small families, and are done by noon, and have nothing better to do than to go to work. Some hate their families, some are Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindi, etc. My uncle used to open his bowling alley around noon on xmas, it let people get away from their families once they had their fill, and it gives an extra activity to those that travel here but don’t have any other time to see the local scene, they can at least go somewhere other than families houses. If I was penned up in any of my relatives houses all day, I’d be buggin out.

How about we let all the restaurants close?!?! People can cook at home, be with their families, etc. If you have no family, fix up some food and take it to a police or fire station. They don’t get a holiday off to dine in restaurants where the help should be home spending quality time with loved ones. It is time to sacrifice one day of your life for others. Not open a commercial business to make a buck and make your employees work.

Also, I work at a nursing home and we give our time gratefully whether if it’s a holiday or not. Everyone needs a little cheer of the holidays in their lives, including our residents. Our residents look forward everday just to see our faces. Merry Christmas to all the hard workers in every field and Merry christmas to the people who don’t have nobody at all and Merry Christmas to our residents that may not get to ever spend time with their families.

To Whatever…I work in nursing. I work on Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter & the 4th of July.My facility doesn’t close for holidays or weekends & we are expected to be there. As you enjoy your holiday, give thanks for the nurses in hospitals & nursing homes all over the country who work on days like today so you & your family members will be safe & well.

Or maybe the people in the restaurants just don’t celebrate Christmas, and they also have a lot of clientele who don’t. Kohinoor might be a place like that. (I don’t know. But it is a possibility.)

Some people need to work Christmas to make ends meet. Be thankful you have a job and can work. It is also great to have these places open, so that people who are alone can share a meal with others. Thumbs up to the restaraunts who do stay open. You are helping people who are hungry and alone and workers make extra money..keep the work coming!!!!

What happened to the spirit of Christmas, and the meaning of family? why would people be open on Christmas? Thats awful to make people leave their families to work, just so the company can make a few extra dollars. ITS CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!

They open because they need the income. What they will find is that the cost of labor, lights, utilities and food will exceed revenue. Plus I am not sure if they have to pay overtime or not. SDOes not matter

quoting Mark - “All in all, it looks like there’s no good excuse not to eat, drink and be merry on Christmas Day … “ Unless of course, you have to show up for work in one of these restaurants…

I haven’t gone to Starlite diner since sam left. She was the one that made that restaurant. Unless she comes back I would NOT go there!
