Restaurant reopens after fire
J. Alexander’s, 7970 Washington Village Drive in Washington Twp., has reopened three weeks after a fire damaged the restaurant.
J. Alexander’s will serve lunch today for the first time since Oct. 21. As the lunch rush was winding down that day, diners heard a “boom” and were forced to evacuate as flames could be seen shooting from the roof from a fire in the kitchen vents.
The restaurant used the time it took to make repairs and get clearance to reopen from health, building and fire inspectors to make some renovations, including the installation of new carpet in the lobby, Sean Wiseman, the restaurant’s general manager, said this morning, Nov. 12.
J. Alexander’s is open for luch and dinner seven days a week. For more information, call 435-4441.

I enjoy J Alexanders immensely, as long as I do not have my children with me. I have been in there both with and without my two children and they treat you lesser when you have kids.

How encouraging to have J. Alexander’s continue operating in Dayton, particularly when several restaurants have closed. Food and friendly service are as consistent as it gets, not only here, but at all their locations! Portions are very large, and take-home boxes are available.

The service sucks at J Alexanders…I was in there with my two sons and was told we could not have bread and butter with our meals because they ran out of it, and had a large party that needed it…the waiter was a punk, and the manager was high!

The Chop House and J. Alexander’s are NOT owned by the same people. J.Alexander’s is by far the best restaurant anywhere. I have eaten in 25 different J.Alexander’s across the country and each and every store has the highest standards, exceptional service, and outstanding food. If you haven’t eaten there, you absolutely must!

Ummm, its “pre-cooked” so you’re “suppose (sic) to cook it after you get home”? If its pre-cooked then I’m pretty sure you dont need to cook it AGAIN. Brilliant.

I like papa smurphys pizza resturant in centerville. The only problem I have is there pizza never seems to be cooked enough for me. I usually place it in the oven when I get home.

J. Alexanders has great food, I enjoy the service and the quality of food. I must say that I do believe they are a bit pricy but worth the trip on special occasions.

J. Alexanders is wonderful! It most certainly is not overpriced; it’s a treat that is well worth the drive and visit. Service is wonderful, salad was huge, and my steak was the best I’ve had in a long, long time. And Bunker’s is nice, friendly bar that has good food and good company. You can’t compare them, they aren’t even close to being the same, but they are both great facilities to enjoy good food and nice atmosphere. To the goof who made the comment “Who would go to Vandalia to eat?” guess what…lot’s of people. Ever hear of Miller Lane? Shows what you know…

J. Alexander’s and the Chop House are OK as chain restaurants go, but there are better local restaurants. Try Meadowlark, which is just down 725 from those two.

To be completely honest. J Alexanders is one of the most overrated establishments in Dayton. The food is sour and the drinks are overpriced. If you want really good food and drinks, you should check out Bunkers in Vandalia. The food is better and so is the eviroment. No snooty people to deal with. Truly, the place should have burnt all the way to the ground.
