Mobile coupons may be on fast track
The Coupon Sherpa had a post recently talking about Target’s recent announcement that they will be the first major retailer to offer scannable mobile coupons.
We also had this news recently on this blog.
But, something included in the Sherpa’s post was very interesting. It said that research indicates that these programs — which have been around in one form or another since 2008 — are redeemed much more frequently than paper coupons.
It seems that the mobile coupons are cashed in at a 5 percent to 20 percent rate, as compared to about one percent for print coupons.
Now, part of this research could be skewed because it can better document when those coupons have been sought and downloaded, and I don’t know how well they can track when folks cut coupons and then just don’t use them.
But it is of note that mobile coupons are being employed at a notable clip.
The article went on to say that, in the first half of 2009, consumers redeemed nearly 10 million digital coupons.
