Scarves, shirts, machetes recalled

We have an interesting trio of recalls to note today, March 11.

First off, a familiar one: More hooded sweatshirts with drawstrings have been recalled due to the strangulation hazard they present.

Today’s hoodie in question is by Regaliti and is another one sold exclusively at Burlington Coat Factory.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the jackets to eliminate the hazard or return the garment to Burlington Coat Factory or Regaliti for a full refund.

For more information, call (212) 840-0202 or visit www.burlingtoncoatfactory.com.

Next up is Therma Scarf scarves. The heat packs can overheat when heated in a microwave oven, which is where consumers are told to heat the item, and can pose a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

They were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, at malls and online.

The CPSC recommends that consumers immediately stop using the recalled Therma Scarf and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. If purchased through the infomercial or online, consumers will be contacted by Telebrands with instructions on how to obtain a full refund.

The final one is the most interesting. The recall concerns Gerber Gator Machetes, and Gator Machete Juniors, which are being recalled due to a laceration hazard.

Reportedly, the saw side of the machete can stick in wood during use, and if the user’s hand slips off the handle and slides forward across the machete blade. Ouch.

Gerber has received five reports of individuals cutting themselves while using the Gator Machete, all of whom required stitches.

These were sold at retail stores nationwide, including The Sportsman’s Guide, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shops/American Rod & Gun, and online.

Like the others, consumers should stop using the recalled machetes immediately and contact Gerber to receive instructions on how to get a new one.
