Cash for Appliances to start March 26

OK, for all of you who have waiting for the state’s Cash for Appliance rebate program to go into effect, a date has been set.

It was announced this week that the Ohio Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program, as it is officially known, will begin March 26.

Ohio residents will be able to get cash back for their purchases of Energy Star-qualified appliances from March 26 to April 19 for refrigerators, dishwashers and clothes washers, and March 26 to May 24 for high-efficiency gas storage water heaters and electric heat pump water heaters.

For a list of Energy Star-qualified appliances, visit the Energy Star site.

The program does not work retroactively, so if you purchase one of the qualified appliances before March 26, you will not be eligible for these rebates.

The rebates will be between $100 and $250, depending on the appliance.

But for now, you can do your homework. Before March 26, find out what you want to buy and if it qualifies for the program. You will need this information to take part in the program, and this will help you most efficiently shop for a deal when the time comes to buy.

For more information on the program, visit the Ohio Department of Energy for its list of frequently asked questions.

There will be more details on the program as they develop on the ODOE site, and at this site.

So, just like cash for clunkers, if we were on the ball and bought energy-saving appliances early, we don’t get the rebate. Thanks for messing around with us yet again, US government. This will cause appliance sales to fall flat for the next 3 weeks, pick up again for a short time, and fall flat again.

Got any better ideas? Everyone has answers. If you asked 500 people, there would be 500 different answers. Would you rather no one buy new appliances? How did this great country get to this point if we had so many experts running the country. If I recall, the whole world economy almost fell flat. It will takes years to rebound. but you have to start some where. Doing nothing is not the answer.
