Best sales in area stores this week

Despite the snow that has more than worn out its welcome around here, Michaels is determined to get you thinking spring.

This week, the craft store has buy one, get one free floral stems, 50 percent off Ashland spring bushes, 50 percent off baskets (good for Easter and its bunnies), and 40 percent off greenery.

The store also has 40 percent off its Bead Gallery collection of bead strands.

Also, Christmas Tree Shops is taking its own spring break, and has dozens of Easter and St. Patrick’s Day decorations and coordinates for 89 cents to $7.99.

Dick’s Sporting Goods continues its warm, sporty savings, with hundreds of dollars off select bats and drivers.

Then there is Kmart, which is leaping past spring and into summer with gas grills for $50 off. Target has multiple savings on items to spruce up your home, including lamps, little tables and tableware.

Target also has some TV products — Smooth Away, Debbie Meyer Green Bags and Strap Perfect — for buy one, get one free. They all cost $9.99.

Target also has a Dirt Devil Easy Lite vacuum for $37. After checking the Dirt Devil Web site, the product usually retails for $49.99.

It also reminds me that Target should be more forthcoming about the original price in its sales, as should Walmart. Both neglect the original price as compared to their discount.

Walmart also has a Dirt Devil deal this week, selling the brand’s Dynamite vacuum for $37. On the Dirt Devil site, it is $59.99.

Also on the topic of home improvement and/or home enjoyment, hhgregg is having a Warehouse Sale through Saturday, March 6, with big markdowns and full manufacturer warranties on overstocks, floor models, demonstration models and more.

Big Lots has jumbo rocker recliners for $299.99 (regularly $359.99), and folding comfort recliners (since soccer season is but a cool breeze away) for $29 (regularly $50).

Both Office Depot and Staples are offering savings of up to $180 on select laptops. At Office Depot you also get 30 days of tech support with any PC purchase.

Taking a cue from the big grocery chains, CVS/Pharmacy has 10 for $10 this week, when you use your Extra Care Bucks card. The drugstore also has a good “love it or return it” policy on makeup. Even if you don’t have a store receipt, you can get store credit.

Walgreens has been photo-deal happy lately, and is offering multiple film processing and printing discounts this week. Visit Walgreens.com/photo to get the whole picture.

From 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Walgreens is Prescription Savings Club Day. The club offers discounts on multiple medications for an annual fee. Visit Walgreens on Friday to learn more.

Finally, in clothing deals, Kohl’s is in the final day of a three-day sale, with 40 percent to 50 percent off throughout the store, and Sears has jeans on sale and fall and winter apparel for up to 75 percent off.

We were at Chappy’s and they gave us a free piece of Texas sheet cake for my husband’s birthday. It was delicious, as is all of their food we have tried. They are across from the West Carrollton Meijer on Mad River.

Get two plants, and set both of them in two different locations. One plant should be put in a box with a light so it can grow. The other plant should be put in a dark box so it will not grow.
