Is Althea Harper the “Best of the Best?” - Project Runway
After tonight (October 29), there are just two episodes left until the finale for this season of Project Runway. Will Dayton native, Althea Harper, make it through to the finale is she the “Best of the Best (by the way, this is the title of tonight’s show)?
Tonight’s challenge is to create a companion piece that enhances and complements each designer’s previous winning looks.
The designers talk about their plans for the challenge. Althea is looking forward to playing with volume as she sketches a bouncy, full-collar jacket. Christopher appears to be creating a “Gone with the Wind” style gown and purchases 30 yards of materials to create his look.
The Workroom
The pressure is one and the workroom is filled with a new tension. Logan’s getting a lot of screen time this week, but since there are just a few weeks left, it’s about time. Tim Gunn makes his way through the workroom. Tim tells Irina that her design is completely unexpected is that a good thing?
Tim thinks Althea’s design “looks like it’s waiting for a diaper.” I think that means Tim is concerned. A few shots of Althea being catty with Irina and the models weren’t too flattering. Is this an omen?
Irina thinks a lot of the designers should be worried. I just wonder why she has to be such a meanie? She also says that Althea has copied her look. Hmm… those might be fighting words or perhaps a little bit of jealousy coming through. Is this true?
The Runway
The first creation that comes bouncing down the runway is Carol Hannah’s lingerie inspired shear pocket dress. The design is youthful and fresh but appears to be a little too loose fitting.
Next up is Althea’s sweater wrap with balloon pants. She is confident in her design, although from this reviewer’s perspective, it is very safe if not slightly off the mark.
Logan’s high-collar, short dress is a compliment to the original design’s high-tech look.
Irina’s sweater jacket looks a lot like Althea’s design or is the other way around. The short patterned dress underneath is formed perfectly to her model.
The runway challenge of jackets continues with Gordana’s grey wool number. The darting and pleating around the waist gives the otherwise plain ensemble some much-needed movement, but will it be enough?
Christopher’s design is the last down the runway and reminds me of something Carmen Miranda might wear, sans the fruit on her head.
The Judging
“I don’t think this is fun, fashionable at all,” says Heidi Klum of Gordana’s grey jacket skirt combo.
Logan tells the judges that he knows his space age design is on the brink, and Nina Garcia agrees and suggests that work is more reminiscent of a fashion school project. It screams a little bit Judy Jetson.
Christopher - The judges think the dress looks like a carnival float and that it could have used some editing along the way.
Althea - Heidi loves the pants and says she wants a pair. The judges agree and quiz Althea about the common, sweater jacket look present on the runway. Irina attempts to take the conversation in an accusatory direction, but the judges quickly reign her in and heap on the praise on Althea and her design.
Uptown chic, elegant and cozy are just a few of the words the judges used to describe Irina’s design.
Carol Hannah - The judges think the look in its simplicity is delicious.
Who stays and who goes?
Will it be zipper neck pretty boy (Logan)? Or will it finally be Christopher’s night to go?
Remaining to compete for another week are Carl Hannah, Irina, Christopher and Gordana.
The winner of tonight’s challenge is Althea all of the judges wanted to walk away with her outfit - I’m not sure about Nick (contestant and judge from Season 2).
The designer who is leaving is Logan. His tricked out design was too much for the judges.
So, is Althea on track to win this season of Project Runway? Thoughts on tonight’s show - share ‘em here!
TweetHow did our local ‘Project Runway’ designer fare this week?
Last week, Christopher was in the bottom again but was saved (again) when they sent Nicholas home.
Althea Harper, the Oakwood native and University of Dayton graduate, thinks that Irina, Carol Hannah and herself are the top 3 most talented designers remaining. I agree.
This week, the designers have to create a new look inspired by one of their best designs from a previous challenge.
Christopher is getting a lot of camera time this week. Gordana shared info. about her up bringing. We also got to see an old black and white photo of her as a little girl. Past seasons have shown us that more camera time means you’ll either win or go home, but the show’s editors seem hip to this, and it’s no longer a reliable signal. Besides, Christopher seems immune to elimination.
In the workroom, Irina seems to be the only designer with a clear direction and idea behind her garment.
Althea thinks that Logan stole the idea for the colar with zippers on his garment from her design for the Christina Aguilera challenge. Althea even goes so far as to tell Irina that she hates Logan and that she wants to confront him about his “inspiration.”
I don’t see it. Get over yourself, Althea. If Logan stole ideas from anyone it would be Jeffrey from season 3 who totally won a challenge with a zipper-ized dress (see photo to the right).
Althea has something to say about everyone this episode, including Carol Hannah (Why hasn’t she made pants!?!?!). Ironically, Irinia calls out Althea on the runway for borrowing her loose sweater look.
My thoughts on the runway
Carol Hannah: A boring black dress
Althea: Too similar to her inspiration
Logan: Very interesting though I see little connection to his inspiring design
Irina: Clearly tied in to her inspiration, very stylish
Gordana: Boring and not well made
Christopher: Too big and poofy
The judges and I don’t agree, as usual. They like Carol Hannah’s and Althea’s designs but didn’t like Logan’s.
From the judges reactions, I think that Althea will be winning this week’s challenge while Gordana will be going home. Even though they didn’t like Christopher’s design, Gordana’s was worse.
The results
Althea wins, but then the judges cause my jaw to drop when they send Logan home instead of Gordana.
I’ll miss looking at you, Logan.
TweetHow many designer lives do you get? - Project Runway
Thanks to a miscue on my part, I missed the first half of tonight’s show (tear). So I’ll do my best to capture the show as I watch from the middle - perhaps I can figure out what’s going on.
What I do know is that tonight’s show is titled “Around the World in Two Days.” I’m guessing the designers are going to get two days to design fashions that would represent a region of the world.
The designers ready their models and Althea is pretty confident in her design as she asks why no one had ever designed it before. Based on her comments, I’m thinking her design represents San Tropez.
Carol Hannah is second-guessing her open back, floral print dress. Nicolas drones on like always he sure likes to hear himself talk, doesn’t he?
Finally, Michael and Nina are back! Perhaps missing the first half won’t be so bad after all.
The first look down the runway is Logan’s Hollywood inspired design. I think is ultra plain pants with suspenders could have been from Iowa or Atlanta, but I didn’t get Hollywood. Dude, where’s the glitz.
Next up is Althea’s her San Tropez inspired skort with a sheer jacket combo.
Nicolas’ model represents Greece I’m just getting gray and white.
Carol Hannah’s floral print, off the shoulder flowing long dress definitely reads Miami Beach - but is missing the wow factor.
Christopher’s model is sporting a shear; layered skirt number that is represents Santé Fe. As his model walks down the runway, Christopher is sounding pretty confident. The belt was a great choice
Irina thinks her model looks like a sexy, rich snow bunny in her cowl necked brown on brown top and pant set.
Gordano’s location is New York. She’s created a short, gray on gray number with satin trim and crystals.
The Judging
For the second week in the row, Althea is first off the runway and safe for another week.
The judges like Irina’s design although Michael Kors that it looked a little 1980s.
Christopher’s design, more specifically the belt, has a 1983 charm for one of the judges.
Carol Hannah earns an “I would live in that dress” from this week’s guest judge.
Michael Kors thinks Nicolas may have had “Grease” the movie instead of Greece the country in mind when he was envisioning his outfit. Nina wants to know where is the fantasy in this outfit.
The judges like Gordana’s Park Avenue inspired dress… without the crystal necklace, the short, gray on gray dress would have underwhelmed all.
Nina thought Logan’s design was just clothes and missed the influence of Hollywood.
The Results -
Irina’s design took the top spot in this week’s challenge with this week’s luxe look. That’s three wins for Irina. Also sticking around for another week are Carol Hannah, Gordana, Logan
A wishy-washy design gets Christopher by for yet another week. How is it possible that Christopher is still in this competition?
Auf’d this week, Nicolas.
Is anyone else wondering why Christopher is still in the competition?
TweetDancing with the Stars - Results Show
Tom Bergeron says tonight’s show is filled with drama and emotion and while the jury is still out one thing is for sure, it’s time to say goodbye to another dancing couple.
Before we get to the elimination portion of the show, Norah Jones belts out a couple danceable tunes while the dancing pros show us what they’ve got.
The balance of the show is filled with elimination and a tribute to the music of Michael Jackson.
Before the Macy’s Stars of Dance take the stage for a Michael Jackson tribute, La Toya and Jermaine Jackson, along with the dancers from the show, share a few of the ways that Michael Jackson has influenced dance and music. While the dancers did a better job than I could ever do, some of the choreography felt a little disconnected from the classic Michael moves.
Safe to dance another week are:
- Mark Dacascos & Lacey Schwimmer
- Donny Osmond & Kym Johnson
- Mya & Dmitry Chaplin
- Kelly Osbourne & Louis Van Amstel
- Michael Irvin & Anna Demidova
- Louie Vito & Chelsie Hightower
- Melissa Joan Hart & Mark Ballas
- Joanna Krupa & Derek Hough
- Aaron Carter & Karina Smirnoff
America has voted. Natalie Coughlin & Alec Mazo have danced their last dance of the season.
Was justice served (using Len’s words from the tonight’s show)?
Is your favorite couple still in the running?
TweetWill the flu take down 2 pros on ‘Dancing’ week 5?
Tonight we hit the halfway point in our competition with 10 stars remaining.
Up first:
Natalie Coughlin & Alec Mazo
DANCING: Paso Doble
MY TAKE: I’m not a fan of their outfits or this song (“American Woman”). They don’t fit the dance. Technically it looked alright but the music and outfits and lack of a connection really took me out of it.
JUDGES COMMENTS: Len wants more chemistry. Bruno calls her Wonder Woman, but slightly wonderless. And Carrie Ann spotted a lift. That’s debatable.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 7, Len Goodman: 8, Bruno Tonioli: 7. Total=22
Aaron Carter & Karina Smirnoff
DANCING: Argentine Tango
MY TAKE: Ha! Karina called herself a cold blooded umm… witch. This is smoldering yet strangely devoid of emotion. He seems to be having some footwork trouble here and there. He’s trying to be too calm here I think.
JUDGES COMMENTS: Bruno says it was like watching Robert Pattinson tangoing in “Twilight.” Carrie Ann and Aaron kiss and make up. Len says Aaron’s been lost in the wilderness but he’s come back to him.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 8, Len Goodman: 8, Bruno Tonioli: 8. Total=24
LaToya Jackson’s in the audience tonight. She and other Jackson family members will be there tomorrow for a special Michael Jackson tribute.
Michael Irvin & Anna Demidova
DANCING: Paso Doble
MY TAKE: Wow. I think I’m giving Michael the most improved award tonight. He did that pretty well. And the bit about the coin between his cheeks was hilarious. The question on everyone’s mind? Did he use a coin on the dance floor?
JUDGES COMMENTS: Carrie Ann got so excited her earring fell off. Len loved it. Bruno says “Michael keep that nickel in your butt because it’s working!” Oh dear, he just gave Bruno the nickel. Bruno says it’ll be on eBay.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 7, Len Goodman: 7, Bruno Tonioli: 7. Total=21
Mya & Dmitry Chaplin
DANCING: Argentine Tango
MY TAKE: Very smooth. Very clean. I liked this number but it left nothing to comment on. There was not really a “wow” factor.
JUDGES COMMENTS: Len liked it. Bruno says one thing for the future: keep the emotional connection. Carrie Ann agrees: emotional connection was lacking.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 9, Len Goodman: 9, Bruno Tonioli: 9. Total=27
Just a reminder, there’s still time to pick Sabrina Bryan’s pro partner for the Macy’s Design a Dance Contest.
Mark Dacascos & Lacey Schwimmer
DANCING: Paso Doble
MY TAKE: Lacey’s hair is a little scary tonight. It’s half Bride of Frankenstein, half punk rocker. I liked how she came flying out of the fog after his solo moment on the stage. Nice flip. There’s a lot of content here. Impressive. His facial expressions were odd at times though.
JUDGES COMMENTS: Bruno thought he was gonna sprout horns! Carrie Ann thinks he found the subtle difference between force and power. Len says he needed posture, passion and performance and Mark had all three.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 9, Len Goodman: 9, Bruno Tonioli: 8. Total=26
Donny Osmond & Kym Johnson
DANCING: Argentine Tango
MY TAKE: There seems to be an awful lot of him just lifting Kym around and standing there. Not his best dance. Not bad by any means, just lacking energy and content.
JUDGES COMMENTS: Carrie Ann says she just fell in love with him. Len loved the intensity of the dance. He thinks this was his best dance. Bruno says “Finally Donny Osmond is turning into Donny Darko!” Well, there’s certainly chemistry between Donny and Bruno.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 10, Len Goodman: 9, Bruno Tonioli: 10. Total=29
OK. I think the judges saw a different dance than I did.
Louie Vito & Chelsie Hightower
DANCING: Argentine Tango
MY TAKE: These two look so good together. I like how they incorporated the chair in. That slide to him was great. Oh look at that fancy footwork. Man oh man that was good. The crowd seems to like it too! He looks so much better with his hair slicked back like this.
JUDGES COMMENTS: Len wasn’t expecting a lot but he’s so pleasantly surprised. He thought it was Louie’s best dance. Bruno thought it had great story-telling, but that he needs to start to dance instead of stepping through it. Carrie Ann thought it was a little pedestrian but she liked the way he partnered Chelsie.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 7, Len Goodman: 8, Bruno Tonioli: 7. Total=22
Alright, I think Len’s on something tonight. He’s being exceptionally nice!
Melissa Joan Hart & Mark Ballas
DANCING: Argentine Tango
MY TAKE: Wowza! That was awesome! They work great together. And to think that he was sick this week! I’m impressed.
JUDGES COMMENTS: Bruno says she lost her steps a few times. Carrie Ann DISAGREES! She says Melissa stayed with the character. “Yes, you had a few stumbles but this is how you sustain the energy and the lead.” Len says it lacked a little bit of the seduction but overall he thought she did very well.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 8, Len Goodman: 8, Bruno Tonioli: 7. Total=23
Kelly Osbourne & Louis Van Amstel
DANCING: Paso Doble
MY TAKE: Dancing to a song her dad made famous (“Crazy Train”), they look serious and stealth. Louis is all about the make-up lately. There wasn’t as much content as they could’ve had though.
JUDGES COMMENTS: Carrie Ann thinks she’s got to stay with the intensity. Len thought it was really good but she’s got to work on the character. Bruno says when she’s on it she can deliver so she’s got to stay on it.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 8, Len Goodman: 8, Bruno Tonioli: 8. Total=24
Up next Joanna and her substitute partner Maks. Derek is out sick with the flu and according to their respective Twitter accounts, it’s been up in the air much of the week as to whether it would be Derek or Maks to dance with Joanna.
Joanna Krupa & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
DANCING: Argentine Tango
MY TAKE: Oh they are very into character. This is intense. She’s got a lot of rhythm and grace. Considering the short amount of rehearsal time, I thought they did great!
JUDGES COMMENTS: Bruno says it was fabulous until the stumble (I didn’t catch that). Len thought they did great under the circumstances. Carrie Ann thought it was hard to get that kind of chemistry that quickly.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 8, Len Goodman: 8, Bruno Tonioli: 8. Total=24
Up next round 2 featuring the group dance: The Hustle.
Oh my the wigs in that room. Some of them are pretty terrible. Ha ha! But this is a fun dance for the couples. They all look like they’re having a blast out there.
At the top of the leader board are Donny and Kym. Michael and Anna are still trailing at the bottom.
My favorites of the night were: Louie & Chelsie, Melissa & Mark and Joanna & Maks.
I have a feeling that even though they improved this week, Michael and Anna might be heading home tomorrow night.
Tomorrow night: Week 5 results, singer Nora Jones and the Michael Jackson tribute.
TweetSequins, Feathers and Fur, oh my! - Project Runway
Tonight’s episode (Oct 15) is a designers’ paradise filled with “Sequins, Feathers and Fur. Oh my!” Fashion legend, Bob Mackie, the Salton of sequins, will serve as the inspiration as the designers envision an extravagant stage look.
Mackie encourages the designers to take their work to another level as they create a winning look for Christina Aguilera. This coming for the man who made his name designing over the top looks for Cher and Barbie.
After a trip to Mood and the designers have more shimmer and sheen than anyone should have. The fabrics and notions must be a little too much for some as the workroom is filled with loads of fun and laughter.
The Workroom The laughter comes to a halt as Tim Gunn “ If you’re going to have a reveal it should be super-sexy-slut. This is 1999 in the costume department as an ice skating Halloween department.”
Gunn makes his way to Dayton native Althea Harper and her design and suggests the pop out of a pumpkin look might be a theme. Gunn is concerned.
Nicolas’ design is a déjà vue moment for Gunn. Nicolas’ designer ego balloon is quickly deflated.
Gunn thinks that Carol Hannah’s design may have a major wow factor.
Shirin’s creation makes Gunn think of a mash-up of Guinevere meets Elvira. I don’t think that’s a good thing. Snippy Irina chimes in about Shirin’s work saying she doesn’t think of Shirin as a designer - agreed, but why is Irina such a __(fill in the blank)?
The Runway
First down the runway is Althea’s sliver glitter full-length gown slit up the middle accented with a short black feather jacket. The glitter train that follows may not sit well with the judges.
As the rest of the designs make their way down the runway, I’m not sure there’s a clear winner although there are a number of low-scoring looks.
The Judging
Althea gets a fair amount of screen time with the judges who sing her praises.
Christopher’s point of view that included little sparkle panties inspired Mackie to say he wouldn’t put that on the chorus girl behind the star.
Shirin’s design earns Heidi’s praise as upscale witch Halloween dress - it’s just missing the pointy black hat. Ouch!
Who stays, wins and goes?
Around for another design challenge are Althea, Nicolas and Logan.
And the winner is Carol Hannah with her black on black full-length gown.
So… how did Christopher squeak through again? Shirin is out and Christopher makes it through for another round - how many designer lives does this guy have?
Thoughts about the show?
TweetWho’s out on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Week 4?
It’s WednesdayTuesday night which in TV land means it’s time for the weekly ‘Dancing with the Stars: The Results’ show.
Tonight Shakira will perform two hits and we’ll send one of our couples home.
Alright, Shakira’s first performance was kinda weird. I’ve never even heard that song… maybe it’s a new single?
By 9:30, we know that all of the remaining female contestants are safe. Wow. It was a rough week for the guys.
We also know that Aaron and Karina are in the bottom two. Is it possible that the flip could send the golden boy band brother home tonight?
Finally! A Shakira number I know. She performs her real “hit” “Hips Don’t Lie.”
Shocker! Michael and Anna are SAFE? What just happened?
We take a break from results to hear how the stars and their partners stress and fight with one another… Don’t we hear about that every week? Give me a half hour results show and I promise, I’ll never forget how stressful it is to learn a dance in 4 days. Deal?
Next ones safe? Donny and Kym. He is doing great this season so I’m not even the least bit bitter about the whole state of Utah voting for him and keeping him in. And that’s just the family! Just kidding. Sort of.
Time to find out the other half of the bottom 2. Here’s hoping our local guy Louie can make it through.
And… Louie and Chelsie are safe! Yay!
Which means the bottom two are Chuck & Anna and Aaron & Karina.
Len thinks Aaron will do better between the two if he stays.
And going home for week 4? Chuck and Anna.
No surprises there.
Next week the remaining 10 couples will dance either an Argentine Tango or the Paso Doble.
And we get the first group dance of the season: The Hustle.
TweetA little bit country, a little bit of the ’20s on Week 4 of ‘Dancing’
OK. Tonight we’re gonna try something a little different. Instead of going through each number one by one I’m going to highlight the best and worst moments of the night.
It’s a night of all new dances: The Charleston, the Lambada, Country Two-Step and the Bolero.
Favorite performances: The ladies have definitely got this category nailed. It’s going to get harder and harder to send anyone home. Faves were Melissa Joan Hart & Mark Ballas, Joanna Krupa & Derek Hough, Kelly Osbourne & Louis Van Amstel and Mya & Dmitry Chaplin and bringing one in for the guys: Donny Osmond & Kym Johnson.
Most improved: Chuck Liddell & Anna Trebunskaya. I didn’t catch all of his performance but what I did see makes me think he might have saved himself for another week.
Most backtracking: Bellefontaine native Louie Vito & Chelsie Hightower. He was doing so well… until this week. He does look a little taller (or at least less short) in those jeans (as opposed to the usual baggy pants he wears) though.
Most shocking moment: Derek removing his shirt, and the judges saying they hope the kids are in bed (Joanna Krupa and Derek’s dance was pretty steamy) followed by Tom cracking that some adults might be after that dance.
So-so performances: Aaron Carter & Karina Smirnoff — I kind of agree… They seem to have spent too much time worrying about the back flip. But I still liked the dance. Natalie Coughlin & Alec Mazo’s number was also just so-so. Nothing spectacular, but not bad either. Just a little dull.
Worst performance: Michael Irvin & Anna Demidova — Seriously I think he was about to break his arm. This dance was all about Anna. Bruno rightly compared him to the economy — Week after week it’s supposed to be getting better but nothing happens. Mark Dacascos & Lacey Schwimmer a close second on the terribleness, with (sadly) Louie Vito coming in 3 from the bottom on that one.
Funniest moment: Louie Vito as a cowboy with Chelsie’s last partner, rodeo star (and Jewel’s hubby) Ty Murray. Maybe Louie took Ty’s advice a little too much. He was about as stiff as Ty was when he was on the show.
And last, but certainly not least…
The sexiest number of the night: This one’s a tie between Mya and Joanna. Those two girls can certainly shake it.
So, who goes home tomorrow? Based on this week and the past, I think Michael and Anna. But, Louie Vito and Chelsie could be in serious jeopardy after tonight’s lackluster dance.
Tomorrow singer Sharkira performs 2 of her hits and 1 of our couples hits the road.
So what did you think of tonight’s show? Who do you think is outta there?
TweetHow did local ‘Project Runway’ designer Althea Harper do this week?
The challenge this week won’t be using the regular models. Instead, the designers will have to design hip, cool outfits for 9 recent divorcees using their old wedding dresses.
The designers’ strategies at choosing their models seems to focus on how much fabric their wedding dress has. It doesn’t help that they only get a budget of $25 to spend on additional fabric and materials to transform the dresses.
Shirin gets last pick and is left with a tiny polyester dress which will be impossible to dye. When she meets with her client, the divorcee requests a feather headdress. Things don’t look good for Shirin, especially after she grabs peacock feathers at Mood.
Carol Hannah makes most of her living making wedding dresses so this challenge to her is “like running into church and swearing at the top of your lungs.”
Gordana is a divorcee herself, so this challenge is a little close to heart for her. She bursts into tears as she calls her kids and leaves a message for them since she hasn’t spoken to them since she started “Project Runway.”
Tim’s trip around the workroom highlights the struggles most of the designers are having with this challenge. Gordana’s design is the only one that looks wearable, let alone well-designed.
Poor Shirin is having serious trouble with her design. Tim suggests that she start over from the beginning. She decides to give up trying to make a dress to help her divorcee move on with her life and instead focuses on making a dress that won’t get her kicked off the show.
Oakwood-native and University of Cincinnati graduate Althea Harper was barely seen nor heard this episode. She maybe had two lines of dialogue. We didn’t even get to see Tim’s critique of her design. Obviously she will be in the middle again this week.
Nicholas’ client turns on the creepy factor when, upon seeing the creation he made for her, she tells him she wants to have his babies.
The Runway
Michael Kors is back again, but still no Nina Garcia.
As the designs come down the runway, some looked surprisingly well-made and chic.
In the top:
Gordana (edgy and chic … does great things for her body)
Shirin (love the vertical lines)
Irina (looks expensive, age appropriate, unbelievable)
In the bottom:
Christopher (tinfoil, metallic hefty bag, space bubble dress)
Epperson (Oktoberfest, pirate wench)
Logan (where are the beer steins?, a tragedy)
After those critiques, the judges really seemed in love with Irina’s design, especially with the “Unbelievable!” from Heidi.
After two (or is it three?) weeks in a row in the bottom, I wrongly predict Christopher will be “out.”
Gordana ends up winning the challenge and earns the final immunity that will be given out this season. Irina comes in second.
Shockingly, Christopher is safe. Logan and Epperson “both gave us Oktoberfest moments.” Epperson didn’t understand the challenge while Logan made poorly constructed and ill-fitting garment.
Epperson is sent home and pretty-boy Logan survives another elimination.
Who do you think should have gone home this week? What did you think of the winning design?
TweetWhich couples are going home? ‘Dancing’ Week 3 results
OK ladies and gentlemen, time for the Week 3 ‘Dancing with the Stars’ results show.
Len picks Chuck and Anna’s Samba for the repeat performance to kick things off. Hmm. Will it be their last dance? I still think he’s going home. But it could also be Michael.
The JabbaWockeeZ will perform later on for this week’s Macys Stars of Dance performance.
But first Maks and Cheryl dance to Queen Latifah’s new single “Fast Car.”
Queen Latifah is such a class act. Even rapping she’s great. And I don’t like rap.
Before viewer scores are added in, Michael and Anna are in last place and Mya and Dmitry are in 1st.
First up, the night’s lowest scoring men await their fate.
Wow! Tom and Cheryl are safe. Whether he’ll be able to stay or not, remains to be seen but the viewers seem to want him to stay.
And, as I expected, Michael and Anna T. are in jeopardy.
And lastly: Shocker! Chuck and Anna D. are safe. I just hope he can improve for next week. I’m not sure I can stand another pitiful dance from him.
Alright, time to find out if Tom will continue. And the answer is no. Tom says “You can’t practice. And if you can’t practice you’ll make a fool out of yourself. And I couldn’t do that to Cheryl.” But, on a bright note: if he feels up to it he’ll dance in the finale.
Even though Tom is now out, the couple with the lowest score will still be eliminated tonight.
The 3 highest scoring women are about to find out if they are dancing again or if they might be going home.
No shock here: Mya and Dmitry are safe.
Natalie and Alec are also safe.
Joanna and Derek are in jeopardy. Oh no!
Now, are the four remaining men safe?
Donny and Kym are safe. But not from Bruno (after last night’s kiss), according to Tom.
Bellefontaine native Louie and his partner Chelsie are safe. I’m quite happy about that. I think he’s got the potential to go all the way!
Aaron and Karina are at risk and Mark D. and Lacey are safe.
The Macys Design a Dance contest dream couple past performer is Sabrina Bryan! Sabrina got eliminated early on in a season 5 shocker. Viewers get to choose any of this season’s male pros to partner with Sabrina.
The JabbaWockeeZ start their show off to ‘Singin’ in the Rain.’ This is pretty cool. Lacey and Mark Ballas even joined them for a glittery finish.
Queen Latifah sings “Ease on Down the Road.” Apparently she’s a fan of Chucks (Chuck Taylor shoes). Queen’s in some shiny black high top ones and her dancers are in regular red ones.
This song’s got a great beat to it. Way to go Queen Latifah!
The Woz (Steve Wozniak) is coming back to help predict the winner! Who will it be? No one can clearly pick, but the toddler picked Melissa Joan Hart.
Back to the eliminations (you know, the whole reason we’re here and watching this for an hour).
Debi and Maks are in jeopardy.
Kelly & Louie and Melissa Joan & Mark are are safe.
Time to find out who’s going home…
These 4 couples are in jeopardy.
Michael and Anna
Joanna and Derek
Aaron and Karina
Debi and Maks
And the next couple safe? Joanna and Derek.
Also safe? Aaron and Karina (who “cried for nothing” according to Samantha).
Len wouldn’t pick who he wants to see stay in the competition but thinks they both have potential.
And the ones going home? Debi and Maks.
I’m kinda bummed. They were fun.
The remaining 11 dancers have one week to learn their next dance.
TweetLatin night brings heat and a little makin’ out to the ‘DWTS’ dance floor
Welcome to week 3 of ‘Dancing with the Stars.’
Tonight is Latin night featuring the Samba (sexy) and the Rumba (romantic) and 13 dancers remain.
Will Tom DeLay dance tonight? No one knows for sure. His foot injury is now a full stress fracture. It’s been touch and go all day as to whether he’ll dance tonight or not according to Tom Bergeron.
Kicking things off tonight:
Mark Dacascos & Lacey Schwimmer
DANCING: Rumba
MY TAKE: It was alright but I didn’t care for the song and it didn’t seem to help the dancing. He had some nice lines though.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 6, Len Goodman: 6, Bruno Tonioli: 6. Total=18
Joanna Krupa & Derek Hough
DANCING: Samba
MY TAKE: Derek flew in out of nowhere on a rope! That was kinda hot and pretty sexy.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 7, Len Goodman: 8, Bruno Tonioli: 8. Total=23
Mya & Dmitry Chaplin
DANCING: Rumba
MY TAKE: Holy cow. That was a smokin’ number. Very sexy. Side note: That song (Shakira’s ‘Underneath Your Clothes’) is a bit dirty for network TV isn’t it?
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 10, Len Goodman: 7, Bruno Tonioli: 10. Total=27
Melissa Joan Hart & Mark Ballas
DANCING: Samba
MY TAKE: It was alright but there seemed to be a little bit of a disconnect. I really want to like her dancing but she’s just not quite there yet. Come on you two!
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 6, Len Goodman: 6, Bruno Tonioli: 7. Total=19
Louie Vito & Chelsie Hightower
DANCING: Rumba
MY TAKE: Oh my. A girl could fall in love… and it seems like Chelsie and Louie might be doing just that. Louie looks much better with the hair slicked back.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 8, Len Goodman: 5, Bruno Tonioli: 7. Total=20
Geeze, Len. Apparently your week off made you grumpier. Does someone need a nap?
Debi Mazar & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
DANCING: Samba
MY TAKE: That’s a lot of feathers. She’s much improved over previous weeks but still a little off. That outfit kinda looks like she belongs on ‘Zoobilee Zoo.’
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 6, Len Goodman: 5, Bruno Tonioli: 6. Total=17
Donny Osmond & Kym Johnson
DANCING: Rumba
MY TAKE: Ooh la la. Very romantic. Very smooth and graceful, yet still sexy.
And oh my God he’s about to make out with Bruno! Ha! Donny says they won’t let him back in Utah now.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 7, Len Goodman: 7, Bruno Tonioli: 7. Total=21
Hey hey! Lance Bass and Paula Abdul are in the audience. Guess she will be free on her weeknights now. And she gives the expected Simon/Len comparison. And apparently, she wants to make out with Carrie Ann? OK…
Michael Irvin & Anna Demidova
DANCING: Samba
MY TAKE: Why hello! I thought there might be a dancer in there somewhere and here he is.
Umm. I think the judges watched a different dance than I did. I thought it was good!
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 5, Len Goodman: 4, Bruno Tonioli: 5. Total=14
Natalie Coughlin & Alec Mazo
DANCING: Rumba
MY TAKE: That was pretty steamy. I guess Edyta’s permission to go all out with her husband did the trick. They’ve got some serious eye contact going on.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 9, Len Goodman: 8, Bruno Tonioli: 9. Total=26
Chuck Liddell & Anna Trebunskaya
DANCING: Samba
MY TAKE: He’s gotten better but it’s still kind of painful to watch him try to dance. Sooo awkward.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 6, Len Goodman: 5, Bruno Tonioli: 6. Total=17
Aaron Carter & Karina Smirnoff
DANCING: Rumba
MY TAKE: Oops. He stumbled a bit there. I wasn’t a fan of this dance for him. He didn’t look the least bit comfortable out there.
The judges didn’t mention that he slipped. That’s odd. They usually pick up on that. SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 8, Len Goodman: 6, Bruno Tonioli: 7. Total=21
Even though he’s been told by show producers and his doctors not to dance and to drop out of the competition, he’s going for it. Up next, Tom & Cheryl.
Tom DeLay & Cheryl Burke
DANCING: Samba
MY TAKE: Poor guy, he’s counting his steps. Pretty good. Especially considering he’s got two broken feet. Cute patriotic outfits though.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 6, Len Goodman: 4, Bruno Tonioli: 5. Total=15
Kelly Osbourne & Louis Van Amstel
DANCING: Samba
MY TAKE: Uh oh, Lady Gaga’s ‘Love Game.’ Whoa! That was pretty great! I think they did save the best for last! I like her hair that color! Those were some hot kisses there.
SCORE: Carrie Ann Inaba: 7, Len Goodman: 6, Bruno Tonioli: 7. Total=20
Kelly and Louis might have nailed it: The full moon’s behind all the makin’ out tonight.
Hmm. Pretty sure they just sunk any voting for Tom & Cheryl and maybe upped it for Joanna. Samantha’s voiceover during the recap said Joanna and Derek’s names and number over Tom & Cheryl’s recap moment.
My favorites of the night would have to be Bellefontaine native Louie Vito & Chelsie, Kelly & Louis and Mya & Dmitry. I also have to give some props to Tom DeLay. He did pretty good.
Least favorites: Chuck & Anna, Aaron & Karina and Mark & Lacey.
My prediction for who goes home tomorrow? Chuck & Anna.
Queen Latifah will be on the results show tomorrow night at 9.
TweetKors is in. Who is out? - Project Runway
Tonight’s challenge is about the color blue - the winner will design a holiday dress for Macy’s. Since this show was delayed in airing, I’m wondering if we might have already seen this winning design - last season (a commercial later in the show answer the question - it will be the 2009 holiday season).
By the way, where are Nina Garcia and Michael Kors? Their witty banter has been missing for the last few weeks. I don’t know about you but I’ve been missing them - tear.
Dayton native Althea Harper, presents her designs to the Macy’s executive, a denim wide-legged high wasted pants and suiting look - something for work and something for going out. Althea’s design suggestions earn her a spot as a team leader. By the way number two. Althea is bringing the runway to Dayton this weekend and will be at a number of events all over the city.
The Teams and Their Designs
Team Althea and Logan are taking the suit and making it modern. Tim approves, but will the judges?
Irina and Gordana seem to be at odds throughout most of the show. Irina is concerned that when you design with one color “You just feel like you are a walking color.”
Christopher and Epperson spend their camera time in a love fest praising each other’s work and how happy they are to be working together. Tim’s feedback gives the two even more self-confidence and now think they have reinvented the shirtdress. I’m not sure that’s exactly what Tim said, but oh well.
Louise and Nicholas make an interesting pair. Louise loves to make wacky noises and Nicholas just loves to flounce about. By the way number three, Nicholas hates ruffles and make him sick.
Carol Hannah and Shirin seem to be a little lost in the challenge and are struggling to pull it together as Tim makes his way through the work room.
The Runway Show
First up, Team Irina and Gordana - Irina says her design is flirty and elegant. Gordana says she is proud of her work.
Team Althea and Logan first look could spell trouble for the pair. As the model makes her way down the runway, the skirt keeps creeping up are we going to see a pixilated runway show. The second look, a little more to
Team Louise and Nicholas look’s are, in Louise’s words, less plain than the others. Nicholas still hates ruffles.
Carol Hannah and Shirin’s designs are believe their looks could be sold in Macy’s today.
Team Christopher and Epperson think their model is working their reinvented shirtdress and are pretty smug about the fact that they’ve nailed the challenge but have they?
The Judging
Althea and Logan make it through with their solid, yet creeping look. The pair looks to be relieved. Team Christopher and Epperson as well as team Louise and Nicholas finish in the bottom. Of course, Christopher and Epperson are quite surprised. Who didn’t see that one coming?
The two top teams tonight are team Irina and Gordana and team Carol Hannah and Shirin. The judges love the attention to detail for Carol Hannah and Shirin.
Irina and Gordana are up next, and even though the pair has a top design, the two are throwing each other under the bus. Irina, might be a little on the nasty side and is attempting to take all the credit.
Next up are the two lowest scoring design pairs. Louise and Nicholas are challenged by their use of ruffles. “This truly really looks like a bridesmaid dress with a shower luffa rooshed up the front of the dress,” said Judge Kors.
Team Christopher and Epperson face the judges who are critical of their evening dress. Judge Klum said of the design, “it looked like she was eating lobster and forgot to take it out (the lobster bib).” Kors, thinks the design looks like a teal - charmeuse disco pumpkin. “ Welcome back Mr. Kors. Christopher doesn’t take the news well.
Heidi doesn’t know which is worse - the shower curtain or the disco pumpkin dress. Who will go and who will win? Irina wins and we say goodbye to Louise.
Another week down and Althea has made it through!
Thoughts about tonight’s show - share ‘em here!
