Dancing with the Stars - Who Won Season 8? Spoilers ahead. 2009
Lady Ga Ga opened tonight’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ finale with her hit - ‘Just Dance’ - appropriate don’t you think! Without a doubt, this season has been one of the best ever in terms of talent. The only question that remains for most of us… is who won?
Will it be Shawn Johnson and her partner Mark Ballas? The couple appears to be reaching their peak at just the right moment.
Or will Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke be awarded the top prize for the consistent and dramatic performances.
Perhaps Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolan will mend her broken heart and win the whole thing.
Of course, like any season finale, we have to relive the season that was. While some of this is fun… I say let’s get on with the show… I don’t need to be reminded of the six or so reasons that I was ready to turn off this year’s series… thank goodness for the DVR! The Jeffrey Ross act was worthy of a fast forward… I hope you all could join me with skipping past that dribble.
Let’s get back to the dancing soon please! Finally!
Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas - For their final number, they dance the Cha, Cha, Cha. Shawn and Mark made their final performance count - will the judges agree? Judge’s score - 30.
Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani - the couple’s final dance, the samba. It looks like Melissa and Tony have brought their A game to tonight’s competition - and the judges agree. Judge’s score - 30.
Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke - Will the Gilles and Cheryl’s final dance, the Argentine Tango, be as flawless as the other two teams? Yes - without a doubt. If they could have received an 11, I’m sure they would have… it was amazing! Judge’s score - 30.
It all comes down to how America voted… this season, just two or three points separate the dancing duos form the Mirror Ball. The first couple eliminated in tonight’s finale is Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani. This is a close race to the finale with less than 1 percent separating the two remaining dancing teams. The final dancing pair eliminated are Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke.
So, the Season 8 Dancing with the Stars winner is Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas.
Looks like the readers of this blog predicted this one! Did America and the Judges choose the right dancing duo?

What a shame, the better couple did not win. I don’t think I will ever watch this show again. This is a disgrace and I’m truly disgusted by this show. It’s supposed to be a dance competition not a popularity contest. Until Dancing with the Stars can find a better way to run this competition, I will not be watching again.By Sue

If you notice Shawn and Mark were both surprised they won. So, I am happy for them. I did like Gilles and he was a good dancer, but I also thought Sabrina and Mark would have won a few seasons ago. So what do I know.By lonestar

….to much focus on Cheryl and not enough on Gilles. A very nice win for Shawn! She’s a tough Little Spirit! Great job Shawn!By I love DWTS

Any one of the 3 could have won and it would have been fine! There was a reason the judges gave all 3 couples 30 for their final dances because they are all great dancers! Great finale!By Clarice

Once again, it was a popularity contest and not about dancing! Gilles should have won, and Melissa would have been in 2nd place.By Roberta

Truly a disappointment - Gilles and Cheryl were the utmost in dancers! They have it all and were true dancers through and through. There should be a change in the voting procedure - too much fan base for a cutsy little girl threw it off! Not enough class in her dancing. Gilles was truly humble and genuine - most deserving to win. Bruno was right - a star is born and we hope Gilles will continue to shine. I am sad today that true dancers were overlooked. Cheryl brought us a wonderful show every time with Gilles. They were terrific together to watch! If you love dancing - they were it.By fan

The right person won.It was a personality contest.Shawn worked just as hard as everyone else. She deserved it.Muscular legs are better to look at than flabby legs.By Dancing fan

Gilles should have won. He was more consistent and flowing with his dancing. Shawn looks like a gymnast with those muscular legs. She only got really good toward the end. Gilles was wonderful all through the competition. He has flair and drama and I loved his dance interpretations.By Mick

I really wanted the cowboy to win, but Shawn and Mark did a great job consistantly. By far, this was the greatest show! It’s entertainment, and I was really entertained. It was fun to watch this time and everyone worked hard this season. I liked all of the off takes and the judges consistent comments for improvement. Good Job! We need another Cowboy next season!By Susan

I was so disappointed.Shawn was very cute but all of her dances she looked more like a gymnast than a dancer - Gilles was right on even every week. The scoring was very close - maybe they should have both gotten that sparkley ball.By rita

I agree, Gilles was more graceful, charismatic, and humble. Shawn is an excellent dancer, but didn’t appear to be as consistently solid throughout the competition in the same way that Gilles was. Not fair!!!By paul

What a disappointment. Gilles was by far the most consistently excellent dancer. The gymnast didn’t have the style or grace…ugh.
