American Idol latest update: What happens to Tatiana?
Some of us have our doubts about how this new format for determining the top 12 contestants will work out. Time to find out if the first phase confirms our suspicions or makes it all better.
Three people from this group of 12 will advance. Three more will advance next week and another three after that. Exactly how they get the final three after that isn’t clear to me yet.
Ryan Seacrest says 24 million votes were cast, 10 million more than last year at this time.
Before we get to any results, however, we get the dreaded group sing. They tackle “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz.
I am cringing at this point and thinking that I could get 30 minutes of my life back if they would just get on with it in these results shows.
Ryan recaps the highlights — and lowlights — of the previous night’s singing, then starts to call out contestants to learn their fate.
Casey Carlson is the first one up, and she admits she picked the wrong song. The voters and I agree, and she is the first to find out she isn’t in the top 12.
Stephen Fowler is next. He sang “Rock with You” and was panned by the judges. He also is not in the top 12, and it’s not a surprise to me. So far, America got it right.
Alexis Grace comes up after that, and I think we might have our first one go through to the next round. I am right, and she is in.
In a change from the what I remember of the past, they have the one advancing sing instead of the losers, and I think that’s a good idea. Alexis does her song “Never Loved a Man.”
Ricky Braddy and Jackie Tohn are brought up together. I am thinking they will be sent packing together, and I am right. I think Simon takes some delight in Jackie’s departure because she tried to take him on during the show.
Anoop Desai and Michael Sarver come up together, and they are the two I thought had a chance to make it through as wildcards. When they come up together, I know only one at best will advance. Which one? It’s Michael, and while I am not surprised, I am not sure it was the right pick.
Anoop was 20,000 votes short of Michael, who gets to sing “I Don’t Wanna Be.”
After a plug for the new American Idol experience at Walt Disney World, they bring back Carly Smithson and Michael Johns from last year. They sing “The Letter” and again I am reminded that an hour-long show is just too long.
Back to the results, finally. Ann Marie Boskovich is up next, joined by local guy Brent Keith and then Stevie Wright. Randy Jackson thinks they are all out, and he is right.
That leaves Danny Gokey and Tatiana Del Toro battling for the final spot. OK, so this should be a slam dunk for Danny, right? Ryan asks Paula who should make it, and in typical Paula fashion, she beats around the bush and avoids answering the question. Finally, she says Danny should advance. America agrees, and so do I. For a second, I feel a bit of remorse for Tatiana.
Danny sings his song, Tatiana cries throughout and I remember suddenly why I don’t really care if Tatiana is gone.
So, did America get all three top 12 finalists right?

Tatiana will be one of the 3 who makes it because of the judges. They need another Sanjaya (sp?) this year. You heard it here first

i PICKED THE THREE THAT I THOUGHT SHOULD GO THROUGH AND ALL THREE OF MY PICKS MADE IT. THE OTHERS JUST DIDN’T PICK THE RIGHT SONGS AND STAYED SAFE. THE THREE THAT MADE IT PICKED GOOD SONGS AND THEY DESERVE WHERE THEY ARE. IT IS NOT GONNA BE EASY THIS YEAR. THE TALENT IS VERY GOOD. THEY JUST HAVE TO MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICHES TO MAKE IT THROUGH. DANNY & ALEXIS IS GREAT. BUT DANNY IS MY FAVORITE SO FAR OUT OF ALL OF THEM. HE JUST SEEMS TO HAVE IT TOGEATHER UNLESS HE MAKES A BIG MISTAKE I SEE HIM AND ALEXIS GOING FAR….

Anoop should have gotten thru! But I do think he will be back as a wild card! Danny and Alexis were the best choices though but I don’t like the way they are doing this this year. Maybe if Anoop were in the next group he would have made it thru this time.

Ha ha - my reaction was the same - SERIOUSLY? Michael Sarver?? I couldn’t believe that - I would have picked Anoop for sure over him (although it sounds like he narrowly missed it!) and probably Brian too. I do like Michael, but didn’t see him as the best choice for the top 3. Alexis and Danny were spot on. I was so relieved when Casey got the boot. After some digging on the Idol site, I have found out more about how they will pick the last 3. The “wildcard show” singers will be selected by the judges, but it doesn’t how many they will select - 12 again maybe so they can get another 2 hours out of it? It also doesn’t say what the distribution will be - so many from each of the shows or just whoever they want regardless of which show they performed on or their gender. I couldn’t believe with all of the garbage that was crammed into that show that they didn’t even mention the wild card round. They just told everyone they were going home! WTF? I am sure that Anoop will be back for that mysterious wild card show, so hopefully he will still get his spot in the top 12. I actually wouldn’t be surprised tacky, immature Tatiana back too, truthfully. And that performance by Carly and Michael reminded me of why I didn’t bother to watch last season! Actually - Season 5 was the last one that I watched - normally I just watch until they get past Hollywood week and then I’m done. But this year Danny has captured my interest, so I’m in as long as he is. I would also like to see Anoop get in- but beyond that I don’t particularly care at this point. We’ll see if someone else can interest me along the way…

Michael should not have gone through, even though I do like him. he was no where near as good as Anoop, but once again, America screws up. They voted him through because of his hard working man story and not his voice. he’s okay and good at times, but Anoop has been consistently good and was better Tuesday night. Anyway, Danny and Alexis made it through and well deserved. I’m getting a little disappointed with the format they are doing this year. Why do they all have to sit and talk to Ryan and why do the result shows have to be an hour? They drag things out far too long.

Oh and another thing, we will be seeing Anoop again. Michael is good, but Anoop was better. Michael has that hard worker/family man look about him that makes him well liked by all.

I thought what Tatiana did was soooo disrespectful to Danny. They dang near had to push her off the stage! And for her to go around to Stevie(I think)and hug her and cry like that was not cool. I honestly thought she did that just to stay on camera. The funny part is that Ryan Seacrest kept messing with her every time Tatiana fell off in lala land when he asked her a question. Hilarious.
