Double shocker on American Idol: Latest Update

So what week is this? Some might ask, “who cares…” but when you consider the 38 million votes cast for the six finalists - you’d have to say millions of viewers do.

Kicking off tonight’s show is Andrew Lloyd Weber playing the piano as the six finalists sing “All I Ask of You” from the Phantom if the Opera.

Before we get down to the results President Bush and the First Lady thanking those who help to raise more then $65 million.

Now on to the results -

Starting with the Davids… Cook and Archuleta… they are both safe.

Did you all catch Jason Castro yawning when the camera cut away to the contestant’s waiting to hit the stage. He must not be too worried about being voted off.

So why didn’t they have another idol alum back to perform?

Leona Lewis performs her hit ” Bleeding Love.”

Back to the show. Syesha Mercado and Brooke White are up next. OMG Brooke is safe… and Syesha could be going home. How the bleep did that happen.

Who will be joining Syesha… will it be Carly or Jason Castro? OMG another shocker… The producers have the bottom two sing their songs from last night… ouch!

The drama. Randy is shocked Carly and Syesha are in the bottom two.

carly.jpg

Carly is going home… WOW! The judges give Carly many kind words… America got this one way wrong! Agree - disagree - discuss?

Do you think America chose the right David to win 'American Idol'?

It has nothing to do with the truth not being tolerated. It just sucks that the votes are based on popularity and not skills. There’s nothing that could be done about that, and that’s the truth.

“Someone needs a hug” Cute, and original too. Usually heard said when the truth cannot be tolerated.

The biggest problem with Idol is the voting system. They have given such a huge voice to the fickle habits of the 12-15 yr old crowd. The all style-no substance MTV generation is tying up the phone lines voting on who the cutest is. David Cook, Carly Smithson, and Michael Johns will have successful recording deals…the others will fade away. It seems the best way to vote would be to have members of the recording industry vote similar to how the Grammy’s are voted…but that would not be economicially possible..it’s all about money. Maybe go to stricly online voting and allow only one vote per person…or charge to vote.

These posts are so typical. You don’t like the results so you eithor accuse AI of cheating or want to change the rules for the vote. Sounds like a political party I have heard of.

From all the polls and comments it almost looks like AI is making up their own results. This looks bad! Why would they want some sniveling talentless Carol King wannabe and some Tiny Tim look alike (and about as talented)to stay in the competition? And did I mention the dreadlocks are so gross I can almost smell the scalp! I don’t think I can stomache another night of Brooke’s “all about me” deer in the headlight get me another pill for this roller coaster ride of emotions! Dreadlock boy doesn’t give a rats tail cause he thinks he’s so good - whattup Marionette Man!!!! This one is turning the channel!!!

People pick there favorites at the beginning of the season and no matter how bad they do they vote for them. If they think they did really bad they vote for them more. Plus you have sites that ask you to vote for the worst of the night. Their pick for worst was Brooke so they asked people to vote for her. The goal of the vote-for-the-worst site is to eliminate the most talented and get a much weaker singer as the idol to hurt the show. They have kept many people around a lot longer than they should of. They are taking correct for Carly’s loss on their site.

I did stop watching the show - but still check the blog to see who got voted off. If you will recall, this outcry happens every season. Someone always stays too long - Sanjaya, Kelle Pickler, etc., etc. It all evens out in the end. And NOT winning AI was the best thing that could have happened to our pompous friend Daughtry - it gave him more freedom - especially from the cheesy AI backup singers. So it will all even out in the end, but I WOULD like to see the judges have more to do with it! Maybe then I’d watch again.

The name of the show is “American Idol” not the “Judges Idol” - America votes on who they like. The judges get them there initially based on talent, it is up to America to do the rest. Don’t forget that producers can make records all they want, it is up to the public to buy them and make then #1.

Please give me the name of the guest singer who performed in the latter part of last night’s show 4/23/08. Ryan slurred over her name EVERY time. I am tired of his upstaging every one on the show.

I agree that people vote on overall performances-not just from one night. That is why Jason is still here. And that is why I will keep watching. He is the only reason I watch AI. P.S.-Don’t assume I’m a teeny bopper voting. I’m over 20 and under 40, and know what sound I like.

Hillary, I see that I am not the only one who goes on votefortheworst.com! It seems to me that their tactics are working and there are idiots in America who actually does what the website tells you to do! Vote For The Worst! People should look into that because I don’t think that’s fair to people more deserving to win.

The voters don’t seem to understand - this is a talent contest and not a “who’s the cutest contest” I guess we’re seeing the teeny bopers voting.

I’m so disgusted by this that I don’t know that I’ll be watching next week (I might try to catch David Cook’s performance though, because I really enjoy his singing and performances). I checked votefortheworst.com and they are telling people to vote for Brooke. Thus, the reason she miraculously made it through I suppose. Although I still don’t know how in the world Jason is staying out of the bottom. ugh.

I agree with the previous poster who said the judges need to have input for a certain % of the competition points. It is getting ridiculous for Kristy Lee who improved continuously the last few weeks, as did Carly, to be voted off, while the repeatedly unprofessional Brooke stays. She is not unique enough to remain with 2 start/stop episodes now on her record. I almost quit when Chris Daughtry left weeks early and Taylor Hicks won. But,if Brooke is not voted off next week, I will stop watching until the format for voting changes.

Brooke should have gone home, but she wasn’t even in the bottom 2? What is going on here? Syesha was great and she was in the bottom 2? Carly was going to go home sooner or later, anyway since she screeches her high notes, tiring)! I agree that Syesha will probably not do as well once we leave the theater music behind. I really hope Brooke leaves next week, though. My pet peeve about Brooke is she has such a big head that she stops the music, stops the flow, she is soooo not a performer! NOW that was a big mistake, no matter what Simon and Randy said. And when did Simon and Randy change their tunes about contestants forgetting their words? (David A. at least kept the flow going, covered so well many people never noticed it, and that is the test of a true performer!!). All of a sudden little Brooke is just so wonderful and this is the second time her ego has stopped the music to restart from the beginning. She’s wasting our time, folks. She isn’t as good as she thinks she is. And I think I heard her trying to start another argument from the stage–I want her gone. She’s done, she’s not winning, she doesn’t have a chance. Finally Paula stood up and said something of substance, you just don’t stop in the middle of a song!!!!! Just don’t do it! Anyway, in my opinion, no big loss that Carly went home. Glad Syesha is still in it, although I think she might go home next week if Brooke doesn’t first, and I really want Brooke to go home already! David Cook for the win! His vocals are spot on perfect, out of the world vocal range, and sweet sweet high notes (and I loved his low notes, too). Sexy beast, David Cook. I wish he was just singing to me…Yummy!

Judges & Producers of “American Idol”, act immediately and save it from been turned into a cheap stupid popularity circus without any credibility. US$ 65 Million raised during “Idol Gives” for deserving projects around the world is a testimonial to the high credibility, you have built during the past “American Idol” shows and a recognition of the high standards set by the Past Winners and Finalist. At the 2009 show, the method of “Counting the Votes” should be drastically changed so that a fair result is obtained based on performances and not just popular vote, which had been disgustingly biased as we have seen continuously over the last couple of seasons. Suggest in the final round (top 10 contestants), the 3 Judges award points for each contestant after each performance (which should be kept secret till Wednesday) and it should be weighted to account to 30% - 40% of the Final Total received by each candidate. This way, we have the Public Voting and Expert Input, which may assist to avoid a disaster like this weeks result which is very off putting for most of the viewers.

I think Jason is one of the best talents of the season. Unlike the predictable Davids, someone like Jason with folk-like talents would bring a fresh breath of air to the show instead of them churning out the same old bubble-gum pop, country or rock singers year after year. I think he is truly charming with his quirky, shy and humble mannerisms - sure beats arrogance any day of the week.

This was just wrong. Jason should have gone, and I could have accepted it if Brooke was out. No way should Carly and Syesha have been the bottom two. I agree with an earlier comment that judges should have some say in the outcome.

Jason was yawning because he’s been extremely sick. On medication! Had to be taken to a doctor and given an IV between performances on Tuesday! SICK! He was nervous about being eliminated…he made jokes about being “about to throw up” and was muttering “Oh boy, Oh boy, oh boy” as he and Carly walked onstage.Look of shock and relief on his face when he was announced Safe!

Wow! It’s getting harder to watch this show each week! America has turned this show into a popularity contest - no way Carly & Syesha are in bottom two instead of Brooke & Jason. This crap started last year with organized voting campaigns for Sanjaya & has continued this year for Jason & Brooke. They are consistently lacking, yet are never voted off while Syesha performed well enough to be in the 1st saved category. I wish they would change the structure & let professionals have some say - this year could end up being a sad joke!

People can be bias. Is it because Carly is Irish ? Sayesha was very good last night, but is it because she is black ? Base on previous performances, Brook should be axedddddddd

What is with Syeshia being at the bottom and I can’t believe that Jason and Brooke was save. I can understand sympathy for Brooke, but the performance overall was not good despite a second start, which did not bother me.

By Victoria

I really felt that America voted correctly between Jason and Carly. Carly’s performance was very predictable and just a screaming frenzy. Jason’s on the otehr hand was original and he brought a certain vulnerability to the song in his voice and expressions that the character in CATS felt during the score. Even though Jason did not “live up” to Memory’s traditional vibe of a female vocalist belting out the notes, he was able to deliver the cat’s true sadness and vulnerability in his own way. I felt that Jason put “him” into the song and he delivered it in his own way while Carly has done this screaming before and needed to be voted off.

Craig, I was as shocked as you were. I don’t believe that they had the best 2 in the bottom 2! I am disgusted and really don’t want to watch the show anymore. 2 people did horrible, and yet they are still on there. Only thing I could say is that Carly finally shined(she was one of your WOWs last nite) and it just might have been too late for her. But for Brooke to start over twice and Jason completely disrespect the composer and act so nonchalant about the whole theme and murder the song… I don’t know what to think anymore.
