Idol does Dallas and adds to the Top 50
Idol does Dallas on night two of the American Idol quest for contestants.
The night kicked off with an inspirational story about one of the contestants overcoming drugs to make her stand.
Jessica Brown belted out the first song of the night, “I’ll stand by you,” earning her a golden ticket to Hollywood… and we’re off.
Next up, Paul Stafford ,an American Roller Coaster enthusiast - oh my - what was that song he sang. Paula says - “Joyful audition” - What happened to Simon - he’s almost nice despite this dreadful outing.
Beth Maddocks - a singing waitress at a fondue restaurant sang “Beautiful Disaster,” and the real Simon is starting to show his true colors.
Alaina Whitaker - said others compare her to Carrie Underwood but Alaina might be a little too cocky - she then sang “Stronger.” Despite Simon’s thoughts about her attitude - Alaina earned a golden ticket.
The Dueling singers - what the heck was that? Simon is speechless. I thinking bad off Broadway.
Did anyone else think this story was a little odd… Bruce has never kissed a girl before and his father holds the heart that fits his key hanging around his neck… I got the story - it just came across a little creepy… the judges say no to Bruce and move on.
Pia Zpia Easley - a background singer, model and musician was up next and sang, “I’ve got you use my imagination.” Judges - love it out and she earns a golden ticket.
Next up, Brandon Green, a collector… a finger nail pealing collector… GROSS! It’s a good thing he doesn’t want to be like Britney. Singing “Rich Girl” I think he’s on his way to a star melt down - in Hollywood.
Kayla Dawn Hatfield, a mom, an accident survivor and energetic contestant sang/screamed up some Janis Joplin and was next up on our way to the top 50. Simon wants to be her for a couple of hours a day - where’s is the real Simon - he’s fighting for Kayla. Can you believe it - Paula said no? Really? I think I might have said no too but this girls energy was amazing.
A series of unremarkable talent filled 20 minutes - I’m getting the idea that Fox had nothing else to run on TV for 6 hours and had to use the auditions to fill some time gaps - really is all this necessary to get to the top 50?
Next - Katie Maloy - Vocal impressionist - gave the judges a sample of her skills by singing her version of a Britney song and was pretty good… really. Simon hands out yet another complement - what is up with him?
11 others, we didn’t get to see, will join the rest in Hollywood. But there is still another day (IN TV time) of auditions.
Next, Douglas singing/moaning out “Living on a Prayer” what will Simon say? This audition might be the best of the night - not really but it made me laugh.
Angela Riley, married to a model who helped her pick out her songs introduced the song his new wife was going to sing, “Baby Love.” While the audition didn’t go all that well we did learn that Randy and Simon are models too - doing mostly Speedo work - I think they were joking.
Is this night dragging along or what? Kelle hit right in yesterday’s post.
The build-up for the next contestant might have lead us down the wrong path… this guy can sing. Kyle Ensley “Somebody to Love.” Simon ” you weren’t as bad as I thought you were going to be.” Another golden ticket!
Next up, Tammy, who compares herself to Celine - asleep? Is this woman really this boring. Speaks out, “If you asked be to.” in silence - the song - Simon? Randy = “it was awful.” Agreed.
Colton Swan, a musician and a band member looked the part of a rocker during his audition and won his shot at fame.
Drew Poppelreiter, farmer was next up singing “Check yes or no.” after a few moments pause - the judges give drew his golden ticket - this appeared to be the closet vote of the night.
Kyle Reinneck wearing his “guy liner” sang “Signing never again.” Simon - verging on scarry…
This show is really dragging on and on and on… can you imagine what it must have been like to be there in person? no wonder Simon gets so mean.
Nina Shaw, from the same hometown as Kelly Clarkson performed her take of “Run to you.” Simon says very old fashioned - she saved herself with a second number - so another contestant from Burleson Texas makes the top 50.
The final contestant for the night… a mix of Prince and a Asian Liberace performs for the judges - actually he performs mostly for Simon, cape and all. Singing ‘We are Brothers Forever” an original composition - oh my - this is so special they bring Ryan in to hear this special song. Renaldo - Simon, actually hugged Renaldo. Maybe Simon has been captured by aliens during the last break.
Next stop for the Idol train - San Diego.
Perhaps I should have watched Project Runway. oh well there’s the DVR. Was anyone else a little bored with this episode?

You said you wanted Paula antics… well you got them with that last audition of the night. She was up dancing and swaying right along with the nonsense of Renaldo. That was a very odd show last night. My biggest thought after watching various seasons is this: Do not try to sing songs in the style of any of the following artists: Celine Dion, Mariah Carey or any former Idol contestants and winners. You will not get far sounding like any of them (and that’s if you can actually pull it off). The saying is “Who will be the next American Idol?” not “Who will be the next already existing celebrity?”
