‘America’s Got Talent’ returns

They say “America’s Got Talent,” but how much of it will we see on TV?

With a new host and a new judge, “America’s Got Talent” returned to the airwaves Tuesday on NBC.

Host Jerry Springer seems surpisingly pretty tame so far. The new judge, Sharon Osbourne, joins two of last year’s judges, David Hasselhoff and Piers Morgan.

They follow the typical formula made popular by a show other reality shows “idolize,” if you get my drift.

The big difference, of course, is that “Talent” comes in all forms, not just through singers.

It’s what makes the show worth watching … and what makes it harder to judge.

If the first contestant, Tony, stuck with talking and not singing, we all would have been better off.

His Barry White voice was great until he started to sing.

The Duttons, a huge family from Branson, played a fun number, but I’m not sure they can keep me more than amused for a short time.

I actually liked the montage of those who didn’t make it.

That gave me a sense of what all the judges had to sit through — and as a judge last year in “Springfield’s Got Talent,” believe me when I say I can appreciate it.

Best line of the night came from Hasselhoff after the Human Slinky performed.

“It just seemed like a giant colon gone berserk,” the Hoff said.

Piers decided to one-up the show’s executive producer — that’s Simon Cowell, for those who didn’t know — and unleash on contestants the most hurtful attacks ever seen in a reality show.

At one point, Osbourne stormed off the set, disgusted with Piers.

Shame of it is, Piers was right about most of what he said, but not right about how he said it.
