Queen didn’t intimidate these ‘American Idols’
This show was highly anticipted by many and in my opinion, it did not disappoint. But it wasn’t what I expected. I expected mostly poor performances and things to mock in the morning with my friends. But that’s not what happened. Queen wasn’t really the theme tonight, surprise was.
Bucky - Fat Bottomed Girls
He didn’t do as bad as I expected. He transformed a Queen song from an album called “Jazz and made it fit his country boy sound. It wasn’t a WOW, but he surprised me.
Ace - We Will Rock You
Certainly not the best he’s ever been, certainly not the best of the night, but I thought Ace was kind of sexy tonight. Much better than the typical Ace intense looks and shaky hands. I would put him in the bottom three this week, but it was kind of nice to watch, twice….okay, several times. A little of that Ace charm slipped out for me again tonight and I’ll be sad to see him go, but at least he’ll be on the tour this summer. Do you think he’ll give kisses with autographs?
Kellie -Bohemian Rhapsody
She looked hot, but other than that I completely disagree with the judges. I know, I know, it’s not a secret I’m not a Kellie Pickler fan, but I will admit when I’m wrong and I’m not tonight. Kellie had a mediocre performance at best. It was pitchy and there was nothing natural about her movement on stage and I’m sorry, it would take just the right woman’s voice to pull that off and it wasn’t hers. OH AND Simon’s comment about how on paper it should not have worked …“on paper? He has the weirdest terminology.â€? If I actually had popped popcorn, I don’t think I could have kept it down.
Chris – Innuendo
I loved that Chris picked a song most of us hadn’t heard before. We had no Freddie Mercury point of reference, which I think worked in his favor. But after his vocals, I think he could have pulled off any one of their songs. This performance took me back to college, hanging out, drinking a little too much. And a friend pointed something out earlier in the season that really resonated tonight; Chris needs to lose some of the vibrato. It’s a tad over the top, but other than that…WOW.
Katharine - Who Wants To Live Forever
This song had a “Broadway feel to me and unfortunately some pitchy high notes. I think Katharine did pretty good with it. Mostly. Definitely a better choice for her than one of the more up tempo Queen songs. I love her voice, but this was right on the edge of a good key for her.
Elliott - Somebody to Love
Elliot gave me chills quite unexpectedly. This was one of my favorite performances of the night. He brought it! No bottom three for him this week. As the sign says “Elliot is One Funky White Boy.
Taylor - Crazy Little Thing Called Love
I agree with Randy…Taylor’s back! Crazy, jumping around, dancin’ man Taylor. Much better song choice than his original We are the Champions! Good move Taylor. I was worried about him as soon as I heard they would be singing Queen songs, but he pleasantly surprised me.
Paris - The Show Must Go On
I was probably the most surprised by Paris. Not only did she look the part (and ten years older), and pretty hot, but she brought the rocker chick thing to a much higher level than little Kellie Picker did. Never would have expected her to do this well.
This show did not disappoint tonight! I was pleasantly surprised by several of them.
Bottom three? Ace, Bucky, and as much as I hate to say it…probably Katharine. It should be Kellie, but I fear racing testosterone may prevail.

Paris looked like she was trying to be Tina Turner in “Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome”. And “Confused????” - it’s not just you. To me, Elliot always sounds out of breath, and just on the edge of the right pitch. I worry about his ability to make it through an entire set, not just a couple of minutes of one song.

Last night’s episode was interesting in that there were really no horrible performances but I think Bucky and Ace have shown they don’t have what it takes to be the next American Idol. I’m suprised Simon didn’t totally blast Paris. Not only did she look ten years older, she also looked like a prostitute. I like Paris. She has talent and style that goes beyond her age, but last night she looked like a sleeze. The best performance of the show, in my opinion, was Taylor. Perfect song choice and good performance. Just don’t kick the mike stand anymore. On a final note does anybody else think the judges need to interject a little more variety into their critiques? Randy says the same thing. Paula appears as if she’s “high”. And Simon surely wasn’t Simon last night. Maybe they told him to tone it down? While he can be a bit cruel at times, he’s usually right on the mark. Bottom three; Bucky, Ace and either Paris or Kellie.

wow! this is getting interesting! the blog is more fun than the show. how will they fill up an hour tonight? i think i’ll just record it and watch later to fast forward thru the painful parts. i have to go to this dialidol.com place and see what in the world they mean, placing my chris in the bottom 3……i might even resort to some name calling myself!

I had to crawl out of my sick bed to comment on this one! Would have loved to be able to take part in the lively discussions today - but I’ll just have to make note from here while still in my nightgown! I agree with some of the folks that say they are getting bored. They did actually do better than I expected last night - but I swear that Elliot sounds like he is singing the same song every week! And I am starting to feel the same way about Chris - there just isn’t enough variety to him to hold my interest any longer. I would only need one of his CD’s and then I’d be done - because it would just be more of the same. Ace broke out of his mold a bit last night, and I actually enjoyed him more than usual, but it felt like an imitation of Chris to me. I’m bored with Paris, I’m bored with Katherine and I continue to be repulsed by Kellie. She’s never heard the term “on paper”??? That’s not a British thing, honey. She says she doesn’t have an accent?? She is a disgrace to the Grand Ole South. Whatever - I am so sick of looking at her every week that it’s enough to make me tune out. I think I’ll use her as a bathroom break for the rest of time she’s on there. Because of her - I don’t think I could even see the tour - that’s how bad she turns me off. It was good to see Taylor back - he is still my runaway favorite and I think he did well with his song choice. And Not An Idol - I stand by you on Bucky - I LOVED him last night! Of course - he DID do one of my favorite songs - but he didn’t suck and he didn’t butcher it - he made it his own in a way that I couldn’t have envisioned. And unlike Chris with Johnny Cash - he wasn’t borrowing from someone else’s redo of it - it was completely unique. I would buy his version of it. It was very Travis Tritt country rock and I loved it, but then I do like country rock music. Bottom three? Who knows? It gets tougher each week! I think Paris will be there again - and Elliot - and maybe Ace - though it should be Kellie. And yeah - that hour long show is strictly a ratings thing. Now I need to go back to bed…

I can’t give up my disappointment in the Idol contestents this season. Queen was a bit better than the last few weeks, but just not great for me. Ace (who I don’t think is all that fab) was one of the better ones last night. I just am not feeling these Idols! Maybe next season… (And I totally agree with Simon - at the beginning of Kellie’s song, she did look like night of the living dead with the lighting!)

I must be deaf in one ear because I think Elliot is horrible! I keep reading how great he was (except for Christine’s comment) and I start wondering if I was watching the same show as everyone else? He has been bad for the last three weeks and last night was the worst. His timing seemed really off. Why do I watch this show? it is a train wreck! Sorry if I offend you by picking on your favorite idol, just my opinion and I sure as heck do not have the guts to get up there and do what all of them do every week.

I agree with Liz in that last night made me nostalgic for Freddie Mercury. Was anyone else bothered by Paris smiling and bopping around to “The Show Must Go On”? That said, I was surprised that there were no real trainwrecks last night, although Ace came close, in my opinion. I don’t think his puppy dog eyes or his scar will save him this week - he’s out of there.

Yes, we can stop now - I’d much rather do it in person anyway. You are right about one thing though - tonight should not be Bucky’s night - his night should have been about 6 weeks ago!

Heather, Football is just one of many categories that you would have to “give to me”. Can we stop with that now. Bucky’s time might be soon, but it shouldn’t be tonight.

You’re right Kelle - I shouldn’t stoop to that level. I guess when I made the retarded comment, I had more in mind than just her infatuation with Bucky and lack of musical taste!

Not a Fan: Compare intelligence? If it came to football, I’ll give you that. But, when it comes to this - forget it. Bucky as a Top 3 performer just makes me want to toss the lunch that I haven’t even eaten yet! I can’t believe you can honestly say he was one of the top three last week when you couldn’t even understand what he was singing! And I use the term singing very loosely! I don’t think that all of the others deserve to be there - but, he is not an American Idol and should have never made it this far. I really doubt if he’ll go home this week. He probably deserves to stay this week more so than most other weeks- but, his time is coming - and hopefully that time is soon!

Dialidol.com has Chris in the bottom 3 with Bucky and Ace - that would be a shocker of gigantic proportions!

People, people, so we’ve resorted to name calling, hugh? Call the judges names, call the Idols names, but let’s not call each other names. Just because some of us are tone deaf and have no taste in music doesn’t mean we’re retarded. Right Not an Idol fan? Right Heather?

To Heather, Retarded??? Let’s not get too personal. It could get nasty when you start to compare levels of intelligence. Bucky has been one of the top three performers in the past three shows. Do I think he is the best? Absolutely not. However, he is the only participant who has shown continuous improvement. None of the rest have gotten any better. Taylor still can’t dance, Ace can only use the puppy dog eyes, and Kellie still can’t learn the words to the songs she chooses. All I’m saying is that Bucky’s performances haven’t been one of the worst three for several weeks. He shouldn’t be voted off this week.

For me, the only thing last night accomplished was that I miss Freddie Mercury more than ever. I was completely disappointed. I thought that Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World did a better rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. Sorry to be a wet blanket, but attempting Queen was a mistake, for everyone.

I was not familiar with Queen’s music beforehand, so I guess I’m not too good of a judge on this week’s sho. I love Chris, no matter what he’s doing, so of course he’s my pick of the night. I can’t muster any feelings for Paris, to me she’s just not good or bad, sorta blah. My choice for bottom three: Ace, Bucky and Paris. Any one of them can go and not cause a ripple, as far as I can tell. Hopefully Elliott is safe this week. He’s good, and seems to be the most “real” of all of them. He deserves to last longer than Ace, Bucky, Paris, and Kellie. My prediction for top three at the end: Elliott, Chris and Taylor, with Katharine a close 4th. What do you all think?

To Not an Idol Fan: You are retarded! Stop picking on Bucky??!! PUUUULLLEEEAAASSSEEE!!!! How can you not? He sucks, you can’t understand what he says and the only reason he is on the show is because he knows he wouldn’t stand a chance on Nashville Star. Ok, I’m leaving now to go buy you some Q-tips!

I thought everybody was on top of their game last night, especially if you compare it to the last three weeks when everyone sucked. I have to say last night was my favorite show so far. I don’t like Ace or Kellie no matter what they sing or how well they do so they NEVER get my vote unless they knock me off my seat, which hasn’t happened yet. I love Queen and I thought Taylor and Paris did awesome! Chris is good, no doubt, and he used to be my favorite but he’s getting boring. Bucky did well…he doesn’t deserve to go home tonight. Katharine was okay. But Elliott? I always forget about him until he performs…that funky white boy blew me away. He is the best from last night by far in my opinion. My guess for bottom three: ACE, Bucky and…hmmm maybe Katharine, maybe even Kellie. I am going to cross my fingers and hope it’s Ace leaving us tonight.

Ok, Ok….I did something last night I have never, never, ever, never done….I picked up the phone and voted!!! Yep…..Chris just about took my breath away. I am a BIG Queen fan and I was very skeptical about any kind of good performance. Having seen Queen in San Francisco with Freddie, I was more than prepared to bash everyone, including Chris….and I never expected Taylor to even come close to pulling off his great performance…. I thought the girls were all weak. But then true Queen is not for female voices. Tonight ought to be interesting. Just my opinions.

I’m shocked. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. But, you guys are ticking me off. Please stop picking on Bucky. I know he is not the next American Idol. However, he was not one of the worst three last night. I thought Katherine picked an extremely difficult song, and she did fine. Kellie didn’t let me down. She was terrible - as expected. I thought Paris had a chance to make it into the top three (past tense). And, Ace just doesn’t have it. Once you get past his eyes, the rest just doesn’t cut it. I think it is time for Ace to go, but Paris could be the shocker.

Well, I have to disagree with you on a couple of points Kelle. First of all, Paris (partly because you’re talking about her right now :) ) - I didn’t like it at all. Like Simon said - it was weird! Chris - didn’t like it either. And again I have to agree with Simon - I would have loved to hear him sing a well-known song. I’m getting tired of the screaming. I enjoyed Katharine - even though she might have had a couple of pitch problems - all in all, think she did great. Taylor was definitely back last night. He did great. I was very glad he changed his song too! Elliott was good - glad to see him better than he has been in a couple of weeks! Kellie - UGH! I thought it started out not so bad - but, when she got to the “rocker” part and was running around, I thought it sucked! And OMG - I’m totally with you on the “on paper” comment! Bucky - what can you say - he made it country and it was okay, but he still needs to go! And Ace - I was sooooo worried about his song choice. But, I didn’t think he did as bad as the judges thought. I was actually fairly pleasantly surprised. So, my bottom three - at least I’m hoping - Bucky, Kellie and Paris. I wouldn’t be upset to see any of them leave.

I watched the show too and I was surprised at a few things. Ace (who I don’t like) actually sounded good, but the judges dogged him! Elliot sounded terrible to me and he is one of my favorites! I can’t stand Paris at all and she proved why last night. She is not a rocker and her outfit to me was ridiculous! My pick has always been Chris and he did great, as usual. I think the bottom three based on last night would be Katherine, Bucky, and Paris. I hope Paris goes first!

ok, I too think it was better than I expected, but then again my expectations have gotten so low,it didn’t take much. That being said, the performances were ok, my fav Taylor did not disappoint, and for the first time since the try-outs I enjoyed a Paris song. But where was Simon last night? Part of my show enjoyment is based on his commentatation, and last night I am not sure he was even there. Oh well. By the way someone needs to have a talking to Seacrest..his comments are getting on my last nerve.Bottom three tonight Ace, Bucky, and Kellie. I don’t think she fooled anyone last night!!!

It’s obvious that most people think Bucky or Ace should go. I am fine with either one leaving. The hour-long show, from 8:30 to 9:30, probably is to keep people from changing the channel and watching Lost.

Elliot’s performance was my happy surprise of the night. He was terrific!! Plus, he’s just such a nice, regular guy… with his crooked teeth and all. I liked him tonight better than ever! I hope he goes far. My personal choices for this week’s bottom 3 (not to be confused with what the AI voters will select) are: Bucky, Ace, and Kellie. (Kellie’s diction was terrible!!)

Have to agree, the show was better than I had expected. LOVED Chris, but then I always do. I thought Kellie did a better job than she should have—agree with Simon there. Elliot was exceptional. Really loved Taylor, & he’s not been one of my faves up to now. Bucky should have been gone weeks ago—I hope he finally gets the axe. He’s not bad, just not that good. Mandisa was MUCH the better performer. Have to work tomorrow night, so keeping up with the results show will be a challenge.

Karen, I’m not sure why an hour tomorrow night, except they do have one of those dorky variety show numbers planned for all eight Idols to sing with Queen. Beyond that, I can’t find an explanation. They probably just want to prolong the poor contestants agony waiting to hear the results.

Well, I have to eat a few more of my words than popcorn tonight because the show was not the complete train wreck I thought it would be. My pick for performance of the night was Elliott. He’s really growing on me and a like what they’ve done with his hair and slight goatee growth. It helps his look, I think. Katharine had a great song to really steal the show and it just didn’t happen. I love that song from Highlander. She was pitchy, I thought. Taylor was definitely back, regardless of what Simon says. I still love Taylor to pieces. Ace and Bucky didn’t do much for my although my husband thought that was Ace’s best performance to date. Pickler looked a bit trashy (I’m surprised Simon didn’t say something about her outfit) She was OK, a lot better than I thought but she’s still too twangy for me. Paris did a nice job, but she’s still not grown on me yet for some reason. Chris, well what can I say. He just awesome! My both 3 tonight—Bucky, Ace & dire I say Katharine. Tomorrow night’s show is an hour. Do you know why Kelle?
