The men of ‘American Idol’ out perform the girls.
Let me start with fashion kudos for Ryan Seacrest. He looked great. Love the navy pin striped suit and skinny tie.
I’ve never been a Geddeon McKinney fan but he did okay tonight. Good song selection and he didn’t bug me with that spooky smile. I have a question…why do the judges think it is okay for Geddeon to be “an old soulâ€? and choose older songs but it’s disastrous for the gals? Interesting.
Chris Daughtry continues to choose perfect songs for his vocal range and rocker voice. He sang one of my favorite songs of last year and did a great job. I thought the woman accompanying him hit a couple sour notes, but he was great. Chris, by the way, you are meant to be a bald man. Just hot!
I have a hard time finding kind words for Kevin Covais. It almost makes me feel like a puppy killer or something. He enjoys rapping to Kenya West? Yeah, I would like to hear that! I know the virtual rotten eggs will fly, like its sacrilege to dislike this kid, but he just bugs me. Please, someone back me up here!
Okay…so Bucky Covington wasn’t awful tonight, which is a step up in my book of Bucky. Not to agree with Simon again, but here’s the thing, you could hear this in Anytown, North Carolina, in a poorly lit pool hall with some sloppy drunk high school drop outs pretending to sing into their beer bottles and pool sticks. And I’ll continue to be a snob and say to his parents…Bucky and Rocky? What were you thinking? You handicapped them from birth.
What a little sex symbol Will Makar is. His performance wasn’t WOW, but he has an incredible voice and great stage presence for a kid his age. I hope teen girls and middle age women vote like crazy because I would like to see him in the Top 12. I will be voting for him multiple times because he might need the help to stay in it.
I thought Taylor Hicks started a little rocky, but I forgot about 15 seconds in. He did Michael McDonald proud right until Taylor took over with the whole arm winding epileptic dance thing. Doesn’t matter, because I still loved it. He is really growing on me even with his odd performance ticks. Someone has definitely toned down his hair and put a few dark low lights through it and it looks great. I didn’t think I could get used to the grey, but it looks really nice and he’s still Taylor.
Each week I become a bigger fan of Elliott Yamin. As good as his performance was I was waiting for him to just burst out and nail it, but I felt like he was almost holding back a little. Nevertheless, he is still awesome and will give the “pretty boys a run for their money.
Speaking of pretty boys. Ohhhhhhhhhh, Ace. Ace Young just like the song said, you give me butterflies inside too. Most of the falsetto was great, a couple times I thought it seemed a bit squeaky, but overall he showed a great range. There is no doubt in my mind that singing the ballads will get him plenty of the female vote. The beanie and biting of the lower lip during the judges critique…well, that could put anyone over the edge. I find myself literally sighing when he performs. When I ran it back and watched again, I sighed again. Uncontrollably. And for you ladies who don’t like Ace. Good. More for those of us who do.
Prediction: This is a really tough one. It should be Kevin, Bucky or Geddeon going but I fear Will may be gone this week.
Check out the photos of the girls from the other night. As soon as I see the guys are up, I’ll pop the link in this post.
Hey folks. Anyone notice that all my secrets came out in this weeks shows? I swear I didn’t know that was going to happen. Just Idol ESP I guess.

Just to let you know…Bucky and Rocky are “nicknames” each of them have very normal names “William” and “Robert” after grandfathers!

I’m hoping that Courtney and Kelle are right about Ace. But, you know - America tends to be rather stupid, so we could see Chicken Little - oops! - I mean squeaky little Kevin and Bucky near the end. Ohhh, that would just kill me. I’d have to rethink my feelings about the show. Well, not really, but maybe for a minute or two!

Ducking for cover I really hated Ace’s song last night. But I really never like falsettos. I loved Taylor, but I still have to close my eyes when he sings. I’m hoping that Kevin & Gedeon are goners. (That smile gives me the heebies and I’ve just never gotten into Kevin).

Courtney, funny you should say that. I had a friend who was saying exactly the same thing this morning about Ace and I was shocked. Interesting that the two of you share this perspective. Anyone else get that feeling?

To be completley honest some of the guys so could of done better. I was the most disappointed in Ace, I didn’t think he tried his hardest out there. But Ace is a hottie he will make it to next round!!!

I can’t believe I actually agree with Not an Idol Fan. Not on every point, mind you - I’m not that crazy! Kevin and Kinnik will go - Will, he’s iffy - I’d much rather see your precious Bucky go!! As for Kellie - I think I’ve made it clear that I do not like her! I’m not going to be as bold and say she’s terrible, but she’s not even close to being the best. I think the reason I liked her from her first audition is because she sang a ballad. She needs to go back to that - because her upbeat crap is getting on my last freakin nerve! OK - now that that is over, I need to go wash my hands. I feel dirty for typing these words to agree with Not an Idol Fan!

Quick and to the point: So long to Will, Kevin, and Kinnik. And, let me prolong Kelly’s goodbye with some extra verbage. I cannot believe you butchered Melissa Etheridge’s best song ever! You are terrible at best! Your looks are keeping you on the show, but you are just horrible.

Jenet, welcome in from the shadows. I love your perspective in regards to the radio. Would I turn the dial for let’s say Ace (big surprise). I think so. But the steamy hot factor most definately plays a large part in why I enjoy him so much. Unfortunately “image” is so important in the music industry because of videos and talk show appearances, the pressure for sold out concerts, etc. Someone who could have been a successful music artist before MTV may not amount to a hill of beans. I remember when I saw Harry Chapin in concert I was dissapointed at first because what I had in my mind was nothing like the real thing. Oh no, do I date myself/

Ok everyone, let a lurker jump in and comment. I have been lurking for weeks and chuckling at the hormone levels that are being revealed. One criteria I use is the old radio drive time test. Would I turn on the radio to listen to the “Idol”? And this litmus test has nothing to do with actually buying a CD to listen to over and over again. Just the simple, would I turn the radio from Talk Radio to Idol Singer? No, not for any of the girl Idol wannabes. The Girls are just plain ordinary. No one stands out as exceptional. The hair, the makeup, the custuming and the choreography are boring. No WOW Factor. Now those boys……yep, they are special….this year the Guys Rule! I’ll lurk for a while and post again soon……I’m almost ready to leave Talk Radio and 88.1 for one of the boy voices.

Dear Ace, Where oh where were YOU when I was 22, single and looking for a guy like you to sing ballads to me and drive me away from Dayton Ohio in a beat up 68 Mustang convertible? Thanks for capping off an evening of great male performances.

Wow - I’m back at PLEASE let us toss extra girls and keep more guys!!!! Gedeon is also growing on me like a fungus. Guess I’m growing accustomed to his smile. :) He totally didn’t play fair last night - he sung one of my favorite songs of ALL time - and did a darn fine job at it. Chris is consistent -and I agree - can we vote off the background singers? And Randy thought this song was boring? Gee - does he listen to top 40 at all? Interesting - I like that song very much - it has that little “ache” in it - great job. WHY is Kevin still on this show???? Seeing double on Bucky…hmph. Will - okay - now THAT is adorable - lol! Takes me back to my teeny bopper days in the 70’s - lol! My 15 year old summed it up well, she said, “I love the songs he sings (cos she’s into oldies), but I’d like to hear him to something modern.” If he makes it - and I hope he does - I’d like to see him step up a few decades - at least do some Backstreet Boys or something! I’ve loved Taylor from his addition - and he really had me at harmonica. He’s working for me! I think Elliot is losing his grip - not his best performance. Ace is beautiful. I was with Simon - I didn’t care for his song choice - but he did make it work out okay. That boy can definitely work a ballad. I hope it’s Kevin and Bucky that go tonight - but I think that Gedeon and Will could be on a bubble - hard to call!!

Let me just preface this by saying that husbands (and kids for that matter) should NOT be allowed in the house when Idol is on. That being said, I missed most of Chris’s performance (who is one of my favorites) because my husband would not stop talking to me. I also missed a great deal of Ace’s song because my husband decided to choose that time to tell me that I ignore everything else when Idol is on. Well, DUH!! It’s Idol! Ok…..husband rant over! What I heard of Chris was great, as usual. I really liked Taylor this week - probably my favorite song that he has done. Ace - you’re just so darn cute - how can you not like him??!! Elliott was good - but, not his usual Wow performance. Kevin - I can’t even go there! Bucky - I just can’t handle him. And he said he’s prettier than bro, Rocky? Ahem! Not thinking either one are too pretty! Will and Gedeon both were consistent with their performances, but I just don’t think it will be enough to make it to the end. Ok - so, my prediction - or my hopes(!) - are that Kevin and Bucky leave tonight. PLEASE!! At least give me one, America!

I’m totally agreeing with you this week on Ace - he was sooo sexy. After last night, I’m hooked. I’m still loving Taylor and his crazy dancing. His moves may not be great, but it’s just him and I love it. Chris was yet again - completely sexy and everything I dream of. I did think the song was a little blah compared to past weeks, but he still did a great job! Bald is beautiful! I hope Will makes it as well, but I’m afraid he’s going to go tonight… I would like to see Kevin, Bucky or Geddeon go.
