Survivor surprise?
The message boards had it right, predicting weeks ago that Bobby Jon and Stephenie would be the two “surprises” joining the tribes in Guatemala this season. The Palau losers are getting a second chance, and Bobby Jon is up to his old tricks, pushing himself beyond reasonable limits. This time, he (and his other Y-chromosomed tribemates) paid the price for their over-the-top competitive enthusiasm. Head to toe cramps! Multiple vomiting episodes! Eyes rolling back in the head! Thorns in the shoulder! A popping bicep, and not in a good way - this muscle had Jim down for the count and anybody with any sense should know that wearing a sling to Tribal Council is NOT a good sign of game longevity. Gone goes Jim, the old guy. ‘Twas a good decision in what appears to be an extremely difficult 39 days. What of the women? Good question. They’re doing fine, thank you. Go figure. Early favorites: Margaret, the calm, competent nurse; and Judd, the defensive doorman.

I have to say after watching every Survivor except the first one (go figure) I love the way this season started. Hard. Come on gals; let’s give the guys a break. They were carrying the bulk of the supplies for the lion’s share of the time. It was great to see Stephanie finally get a win. Hopefully she sticks around for a while. And regardless of what anyone says…I like Bobby John. A little dumb, yeah. But what a great heart!

I was thrilled to see Bobby Jon and Stephanie back in Survivor. Its so early in the season to pick favorites, but it was really nice to see Stephanie’s Tribe (Yaxha) win the immunity challenge. I felt her joy at winning versus losing like last time! I can’t wait to see how this new group does overall!

You’re right, it wasn’t much of a surprise Steph and Bobby Jon were back with all the spoilers, but boy was I glad to see them. The first couple episodes are always so boring because it’s hard to keep the characters straight and no decisions have really been made on who to root for. CBS sure knows their reality TV audiences – I was hooked from the first moment - “Go Stephanie! Brains over brawn!â€?. And it was so pathetic to watch the boys puke and moan and lie around. Seriously, the women just stared at them in disbelief. And poor Margaret, hopefully she didn’t join survivor to get a break from her real life job~ A good first episode though, that eleven mile trek was insane. I would have just dropped on the spot, not to mention sleeping in the jungle with crazy monkeys screaming and snakes slithering… shudder - it’s so much better just to watch. My early favorites - my beloved Stephanie, perky little cheerleader Morgan (not my usual pick but she’s just so… happy… about everything – “Oh my God, YES! I would love eleven miles of torture! Go team!â€?), and the surprisingly only tough guy on Nakum, Brandon.
