Disney won’t help make next ‘Narnia’ film
Disney, burned by the financial failure of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, has decided they don’t want to help Walden Media finance the next film, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
When you compare the domestic grosses of the two Narnia films, you can understand Disney’s plight. The first film grossed over $291 million, while the second film only grossed over $141 million. That’s less than half the first one.
Fans shouldn’t fret, however. Walden will certainly be shopping the movie around to find another financial backer. The Hollywood Reporter thinks Fox will end up the movie’s ‘savior.’
The movie is set to film in the spring of 2009 with a release in May of 2010.
I have seen both movies and I enjoyed the first one more. It was the predominate Narnia book in my childhood and the icy witch was a much cooler villain than that bearded guy in the second film (can you tell I really know my Narnia?)
What did you think of the films? Did you think the first was better than the second? Will you go see the third when it’s released? What could be done to make people want to go see the sequels more?

I enjoyed both movies. I actually liked the second movie better because there was far more action and the main characters were much more mature and were able to handle the situations they found themselves in much easier. I would go see the third one.By Zack

@Hmm: I agree. I liked the second one better, too. The first one was a little too long for me. I’d go see a third Narnia, as well.By April

I wonder why it bombed…oh perhaps because they made Caspian hot and sexy just so they could spur a love interest with Susan? These stories are for children! The characters while yes, they lived for longer than they appear, in all reality wouldn’t and DIDN’T do what Disney made them out.By Gerry

I liked the second one more than the first, but I agree with April on the absurdity of the Caspian-Susan love interest. That was so lame.By Shiv

Interesting that they are passing on this project. Sure, the 2nd film was not as successful as the first, but they still did $420 million when you factor in the worldwide grosses. Add in dvd sales and you would think this is still a fairly profitable venture.
