New reasons why I love my Wii
Here are some recent (and upcoming) Nintendo Wii game releases that have got me excited.
LEGO Indiana Jones
My most recent purchase has not let me down. I greatly enjoyed the LEGO Star Wars games, so I knew that I would enjoy LEGO Indiana Jones. For those of you who haven’t played any these types of LEGO video games, the gist is pretty straight forward: You (and a partner, if you chose) play out the movie as LEGO characters with everything else in the game being LEGO as well. You can destroy LEGO objects as well as build them. This game is lots of fun, especially with a partner. There are lots of fun extras you can unlock the more you play. Definitely worth a rental, if not a purchase.
Grade: B+
Wii Fit
I have been using this new piece of technology from Nintendo for a little over a month now and I have to say that its’ ingenious. It provides a great way to get in shape. Though, if its’ substantial weight loss you’re after, this might not help you. It is ideal for toning your body and teaching you about good posture but very few of the exercises are fat burning.
Grade: A
LEGO Batman
What I am looking forward to most about this game is the storyline. The stories of LEGO Star Wars and Indiana Jones were each based off the movies but the Batman game won’t be based off any of the movies so I’m interested in seeing where it goes.
Expected grade: A-
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
I am a big fan of Star Wars and I have been anticipating the release of this game since I bought my Wii. This game will use the Wii’s motion controls to brandish a lightsaber and wield various Force powers. The storyline of the game takes place between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope as you play an apprentice of Darth Vader. It looks amazing and has already been getting good early reviews.
Expected grade: A+
Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels
I know very little about this game, but it’s Star Wars and that mean’s I’m interested. It’s supposedly less story driven than most Star Wars games and is more about lightsaber dueling. I just hope they come out with a cool enhancement for the Wii-remote to make it look like an actual lightsaber.
Expected grade: B
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I love Harry Potter as much as I love Star Wars so I’ll have to try out this game based on the upcoming movie (due in theaters in November). This was my favorite book of the Harry Potter series so hopefully the game, as well as the movie meet my expectations (but my expectations are usually unreachably high). I played the Order of the Phoenix game and wasn’t very impressed, but I hope this one will be better.
Expected grade: B-
SimCity Creator
When I was younger, I would go over to my cousin’s and watch him play Sim City. He didn’t care much for the game but I liked it a lot (I didn’t own a computer so I couldn’t buy it for myself). The fun of the game is building a giant city… and then destroying it with various natural and unnatural disasters. I agree that the game can get boring fast, but I will still probably rent this one.
Expected grade: C+
Monopoly Here & Now Worldwide Edition
I have always been a fan of Monopoly. Yes, I know it can take forever to play, but I still enjoy it. There is little known about this Wii version of the game, but I’ve seen hints that I will be online compatible, meaning you could play Monopoly with your friends and they wouldn’t even have to come over to your house. I don’t know if that will work, though, since Monopoly can take so long to play, it increases the chances that the Internet will kick you off half way through a game. Hopefully it has some sort of auto save feature.
Expected grade: B+ (if it allows online play), C- (if it doesn’t)
While I’m at it, I thought I would also mention a non-Wii game that I am also looking forward to:
Diablo III
I heard rumors of this game a year ago but had forgotten about it until a friend posted the trailer for it on LiveJournal. The trailer is all cut scenes, without any inkling of what game play will be like. Diablo II is very addicting, and I am sure this game promises to follow suit. If you don’t know anything about the Diablo series: You chose from a variety of characters with differing special powers and carry out quests in an RPG fashion. The goal of the game is basically send Diablo (the Devil for you non-Spanish understanding folk) and his evil minions back to Hell. I’m sure this game will be available for online play, like its predecessor, which is great since it’s good to have help when battling the forces of evil.
Expected grade: A-
Do you have a Nintendo Wii? What recent or upcoming games are you looking forward to playing on it? Are there any other non-Wii games that you are excited about?
