LOST finale blows my mind!

If you’re like me, you were super psyched about the 2-hour season finale of LOST. I watched it with Zack and my friends Jared and Carrie. I was planning on taking notes on the episode but I was afraid it would hinder my understanding and enjoyment of it so I asked Carrie if she would take notes for me. She was more than willing to and ended up with 6 pages!

The following is a summary of her notes with commentary. If you don’t want to be spoiled on the LOST finale, please stop reading here. Throughout the summary there will be questions which you should feel free to give your 2 cents on by commenting below.

Previously on LOST…

The coffin: Last season ended with a mysterious coffin whose occupant was unknown to us. The producers said we would learn the occupant’s identity this season… and we certainly do. Who did you think would be in the coffin? I at first thought it would be Michael but as this season progressed I became less and less sure. I really had no idea who it would be as the finale aired. They say it’s someone name Jeremy Bentham but we have never met a character by that name. Of course we have to wait until the very last second to actually see that it is John Locke in the coffin. Carrie says she called it a long time ago. How did Locke die? How did he get back to the mainland? Why did the Island let him die?

The boat and the explosives: A little too convenient that Desmond has knowledge in explosives but as Carrie put it “it makes sense plot-wise.” I knew as soon as we were shown the room with explosives in the last episode that it was triggered to the life of the lead commando guy, Martin Keamy. The whole freezing the battery linked to the explosives to keep it from going off didn’t make a lot of sense to us, but none of us are qualified experts. When the bomb explodes it seems obvious that Michael died with it, but Jin’s death doesn’t seem as concrete. He could have easily been thrown off the boat into the water as survived. Do you think he survived? Did anyone else on the boat survive?

The Oceanic 6: We know who all six of them are but when the finale airs they are all split up into pairs and it’s hard to imagine them ending up in the same place. They all eventually do end up together, of course, with the addition of Frank Lapidus, Desmond Hume and Sawyer. Sawyer jumps out of the helicopter to lighten the load since it was low on fuel but whispers something to Kate before he does. What do you think he whispered to Kate? Until we discovered that it was Penny’s boat (this time) we couldn’t figure out how Frank and Desmond fit in with the survival story of the Oceanic Six. The producers have said that this season would be about them getting off the Island and it was. They say the next season would be about the Six trying to get back to the Island. They say the last season would be about what happens when they return to the Island.

The Orchid Dharma Initiative Station: The producers of the show released part of the orientation video for this station during the San Diego Comic Convention last year. Taken out of context, it made little sense, but you still got the impression that it was important to this season. Looking at it now you can tell that it was a blooper real of sorts for the actual orientation video you see half in the finale. The Orchid can teleport objects through time and space which explains Ben’s appearance in the Sahara desert wearing a parka in the future. We actually don’t get to see the Orchid in action. Instead, Ben uses it incorrectly to bust down a wall to gain access to a cave which allows him to move the Island. How does it work? We’ll probably never know.

Lock and The Others: The Others free Ben from his captors but they only did it so Ben can move the Island. Who ever moves the Island, though, has to leave the Island to never return. With Ben gone, Locke becomes the leader of The Others. Will we see what happens on Island next season through Locke’s eyes as the leader of The Others? Or will it all be off Island through the eyes of the Oceanic Six?

So, did you enjoy the season 4 finale of LOST? What other events and answers are you looking forward to in the final 2 seasons? Do you think Locke, Jin or Michael are actually dead? Don’t you find it rediculous that the Island disappeared right in front of Jack’s eyes but he still didn’t believe it had actually disappeared?

I realized I left a lot out, but feel free to ponder any questions I didn’t ask.

Best LOST finale yet! Besides the great storylines with the main characters, what i took most from this season was Ben’s advisor Richard. He came to Locke as a child, almost knowing that one day he would run the island. He also hasn’t aged a day and giving me the impression is was the first other on the island and possible the son of jacob and father of Charlotte. Can’t wait until next year…..

LOST was so incredible. that show never fails to get my blood running! here’s my thoughts: ben was once someone i really disliked, but i like him more and more every episode. i don’t think jin is dead. i think michael is though, simply because he was fine with staying behind, plus christian told him he could leave now. although, walt seems to believe as does hurley that michael is being protected because of the lie. i think the island has more power than everyone knows, and once they get back, (if jack can convince them, which he will somehow)that locke will not end up being dead. i’m still not sure why the different name, all i can guess is to hide the idenity since only “6” had survived. i think we will see some past scenes since hurley was playing chess with echo and then you see the center of the island is frozen. (remember the fact he died from the polar bear attack?) i can’t help but to question penny, only because of her dad. i love how sun is becoming this independent woman with the agenda of avenging her husbands death. i hope we learn the meaning behind the numbers and why all of the characters are somehow related to each other. i love how when one thing seems solved like 5 other things become a mystery. kudos to wonderful show!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Michael is definitely dead. Jack’s dad (part of the island) told him, “You can go now,” or whatever so I think that was the island’s way of saying that Michael can finally die. My entire family watches the show together and my brother had called a long time ago that Locke was in the coffin…lucky guess. And now he’s guessing that Sawyer whispers to Kate something about his kid. Because if you remember from a few seasons ago Sawyer is actually a dad. All I know is that I can’t wait till next season.

I don’t think that Jack didn’t believe that the island disappeared… he didn’t believe that Locke was the one that made it happen! Sawyer probably told Kate to find his daughter and tell her something… that’s how I took it at least.

Loved it. I think Michael is, indeed, dead. He had finally made up for sacrificing the others before, and Christian told him it was time. Lost is so good because each time it answers a question, it raises a couple more.

Locke’s dead, but he isn’t. Jin is not dead. Jack is still an idiot … and the Island will some how fix all of that. It will bring John “Back” once he’s back. And Set everything right with the world. Notice Ben said to Jack that the Island won’t “let” you come back alone. The Island is more powerful than we think. It has a mind of it’s own … or it’s just some strange personification of Jacob. Sawyer probably told Kate about some affairs to look into at home for him and how much he loved her … AND I think to get on with her life OR they will see each other again. Who knows. I really don’t care about them anymore because she just doesn’t know who she wants. She wants Jack’s nobility with Sawyers sex appeal and gruffy exterior but heart of gold or something. Idiot she is. I’m wondering how is Jack going to convince “everyone” to come back when they don’t. Desmond doesn’t want to go back … and I don’t think Walt’s grandmother will allow it. Kate all but wants nothing to do with Jack if he tries to go back and Hurley is nuts. Oh, and Sun hates him and blames him for Jin dying (I saw that coming, but wondered why she didn’t go nuts and attack Jack if she just saw her hubby blown up and this guy could’ve did a skip landing and picked him up in the copter. I thot she was going to push Jack off, but she calmed down — whatever!) I can say with confidence that Jack will probably use the truth about the baby to get Kate to go back. More later. …

I was expecting alot out of this finale, and I got it. The only thing that didn’t work for me was HOW they moved the island. A wheel in the frozen center of the island? Really? I didn’t know how they would do it, but it certainly wasn’t that. I had always thought it was Ben in the coffin, mostly because he was another person that people would have no reason to go to the funeral of. Then he walked into the funeral parlor and blew my theory (although with Lost it still might have happened.) Finally, am I the only one who thought the best line of the night came from Ben regarding the orientation video? The way he said “Time traveling bunnies” was so dead pan I couldn’t help but laugh. Ben very quickly went from being one of my least favorite characters to my favorite, and I love Michael Emerson’s portrayal of him.

Call it comfort food, gourmet style.
