My thoughts on the LOST video game

Zack bought me LOST: Via Domus, a new game for the XBox360 based of the television show LOST.

I am still playing the game so I am unsure of how much is left to play. I took a break from playing because I was sick of being killed by the smoke monster.

Anyway, I won’t spoil anything about the game, but just to be safe, click the link to read my thoughts on the game…

The game is set up like episodes of LOST. Each ‘episode’ is like the beginning of a new checkpoint. I thought that was an interesting concept to bring to the game. You don’t play as one of the main characters of the show, but instead as a completely new character.

I have generally enjoyed the game, so far. It can be slightly difficult at times, while other times it can be on the verge of boringly easy. You interact with the main characters of the show, some of which are voiced by the actual actors. So far, I have explored many ‘landmarks’ on the island from the show. I have even started finding new places that haven’t been in the show.

I also like and dislike that your character can be killed. There are numerous ways it can happen, but believe me, it happens. Luckily, you just have to restart at the beginning of the scene that you just started. But when you get to an area where you can die, expect to die a lot. At least, that was how it was for me.

The graphics are really good, with only a few minor flaws. They didn’t get the look of some of the characters quite right (especially Hurley) but it’s not that big of a deal.

Your character has flashbacks, just like in the show. In the flashbacks, you can interact with your surroundings, but you are supposed to use the flashbacks to gather clues to your character’s identity.

Timeline-wise, I am in the middle of season 2 in the game (before the Tailies show up) but I think that when I get back to the beach they will have arrived on the scene.

One of the only big irks for me is that when I am off doing a quest, when I return to the beach it seems as if several days have passed since I set out on my quest. This leads to gaping holes from the show’s story. But I guess it would distract from your character’s story and who wants to play a game that just retells a story that you already know from the show.

My biggest fear about this game was that it would be too short and easy to beat, but it has been neither. The smoke monster scares the crap out of me, they did a really good job on the sound and special effects for it.

Since I am still playing the game, I am not sure if it was worth the $60 or not. It has been satisfying, so far, lets just hope it continues that way.

Here’s the game trailer, in case you haven’t seen it:
