‘South Park’ going too far?

Before I saw the newest episode of South Park this week some of my friends posted that the episode may have gone too far. I saw the promos for the episode and this week they were going to touch on the subject of teachers having affairs with their students.

I tried to predict what would happen… but I ended up way off the mark.

Turns out the teacher is having an affair with Kyle’s little brother, Ike. He is around 3 years-old. Yes, it was a shocking surprise but it’s ‘South Park.’

Maybe it’s just me but I really don’t get offended by anything they do any more. I realize it’s just TV and it’s just a cartoon. Matt and Trey just take the world around them and use their show as a way to comment on it.

Zack thought they might be using this episode to tackle the Mark Foley scandal but I really did not see a connection. Though there were two scenes this week involving the police officers chatting at the police station where they refer both times to one of the officers named “Foley.”

Another small connection that could be made between this week’s episode and the Foley scandal could be the fact that few characters seemed to think it was a big deal that a good-looking female teacher was having an affair with a male student. They implied that it would only be a big deal if it was a male teacher. Perhaps Matt and Trey are trying to say people would not care as much about the Foley scandal if Foley were a woman … but that might be stretching things a bit.

Did you watch this week’s episode? What did you think?
