Send off summer with a bang

Don’t think of this weekend as the end of summer. Think of it as the first party of a fabulous fall season. Football, Fall-fests, bonfires and back to school parties are all in our near future. And if none of those things appeal to you, then at least by happy for the day off. Here are some best bets for your long weekend.

Dayton Classic VII

Central State’s annual back to school celebration officially kicks off Thursday. The glamorous White Night Scholarship Gala will be at 9 p.m. Friday at the Schuster Center. Call (937) 376-6373 for ticket information.

The big game itself will kickoff at 5 p.m. Sunday at UD’s Welcome Stadium with a parade down Edwin C. Moses Blvd. beforehand. The Central State University Marauders will take on the Kentucky State University Thorobreds.

There are several parties taking place in downtown Dayton for students from all local colleges to celebrate the new school year. Free transportation will be available from campuses as well as $15 VIP packages. Call (614) 402-6875 or (773) 614-0482 for more information.

Friday night, Finest Entertainment will be hosting a foam party at IUE-CWA Local 798, 313 S. Jefferson St.

Saturday will be the Dayton Classic Pre-Game Party at Democratic Headquarters, 131 S. Wilkinson St., with a Greek stroll competition hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc.

When: $10 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3

The bite: $5 with a college ID before 11 p.m., Greek members $3 before 11 p.m. $7 for everyone else and after 11 p.m.

And Sunday after the game, A-List Lounge, 212 S. Ludlow St., will be the place for the official after-party.

Operation Welcome Home Benefit

Jackass Flats is hosting a car show, poker run and bikini bike wash to raise funds for the Nov. 10-13 Operation Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Celebration. Car registration is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and trophies will be awarded. Bike registration starts at 11 a.m. and the last bike will leave at 1 p.m. Those hanging at the bar can play cornhole and enjoy some music, food and drinks. They will also hold a 50/50 drawing and raffle off prizes.

Pre-Werk Out Party

Everyone who heads to One Eyed Jacks on Saturday night will be entered in a raffle to win one of two tickets to The Werk Out Festival, happening Sept. 8-11 at the Zane Shawnee Caverns in Bellefontaine.

Bands Nine False Suns and The Barry Mando Project will perform and one ticket will be raffled off during each set.
