The dish on two possible new clubs in Dayton

You’ve probably heard the same rumors and rumblings we have about two new clubs supposedly opening soon in Dayton.

Here’s what we know so far and a promise of more details coming soon!

The Vault or Club Vault Various versions of a coming soon sign have been up on the building at 20 N. Jefferson St. for months and we’ve been assured this “upscale” club is opening this fall. But there is still no opening date officially set for the dance club taking up the former c}space.

A few weeks ago an employee said the club’s furniture had not been delivered yet. Their website clubvaultdayton.com has an employment application available for download and says that they are hiring.

According to their Facebook page the club will cater to a “more mature and polished crowd” and feature 6,500 square feet of entertainment including three VIP rooms, a catwalk, billiards, and free WiFi among other amenities.

The rumor mill seems convinced that this will be a “hip-hop” club, but their advertising so far does not indicate a loyalty to just hip-hop music.

Potential pros: The club’s location - right next to Masque - ensures that lots of club-goers will check it out. Having a major dance club competitor so close will hopefully cut down on the lines outside Masque on Wednesday nights.

Potential cons: The parking situation in the area is already precarious on nights when Masque is packed and has attracted some crime to the adjacent parking lots. A mass influx of more people could lead to some overcrowding issues and headaches for downtown police.

Can’t wait to see: If the club can live up to its “upscale” hype. Without an actual age limit of 25 and over it may be hard to maintain the type of atmosphere they are going for. Also a big thumbs up on the free WiFi!

Club Allure

The former Foundry space, 26 Wyandot St., is apparently getting another new incarnation.

A grand opening of Sept. 10 has been announced for the Top 40 dance club which will supposedly bring big events, celebrities and “never been done before themes” to the Dayton club scene.

According to their Facebook page they are hiring for bartenders, bouncers, shot girls, cocktail waitresses, dancers, DJ’s, and promoters.

Potential pros: Another club will add more heft to the Third Street offerings currently consisting of just Therapy Cafe and a few shops. The location more closely ties together Third Street and the Oregon District. With even more apartments rumored to be going in across from the Cannery soon and the new Olive restaurant open, Allure could be part of making the Wayne/Third corner a new go-to destination downtown.

Potential cons: Since The Foundry’s closing in 2008 the space had only a brief stint at Afterburn Nightclub from August to December 2009, mainly because of a lack of liquor permit. The Foundry was only there for four years before that, begging the question of whether the spot is well suited for a dance club. The building is enormous at 12,000 square feet with 40 foot ceilings. It will be a challenge to make the place not feel empty with less than a couple hundred people inside.

Can’t wait to see: If the club can follow through on its promise of big events and celeb appearances. For the record we don’t consider contestants from unknown reality shows to be celebrities. And unless Joe Francis is actually there, the Girls Gone Wild bus showing up does not count as a big event.

why locate ANY club in Downtown Dayton? The center city is an armpit. Downtown is a good place to get robbed, beaten, raped or murdered.

The owners should avoid serving Hennessy and Courvoisier.

I would rather see a Dave and Busters or some kind of more adult age aimed entertainment facility rather than some hood rat, nasty a*s night club.

What’s the big deal? It’s a club. If you don’t like the idea, then don’t go. It probably will be closed in 2 years anyway. Cities are not the only place where crimes happen…get a grip!

I can assure everyone that The Vault is not a “hip hop” club. The format is going to include everything. A night for electronic, latin, reggae, top 40, and a college night with a mix of everything are being discussed. I believe that list includes everything except straight hip hop. It also offers features no other club is willing to try, close to 100 feet of bar service space, and a hard wood dancefloor! It truly looks to be a big city club brought to Dayton, with unmatched versatility and diversity. As for Allure, the last I heard was that it was set to be a live music venue.

Drunk Gangsta’s and drunk Gays mix about as well as oil & water. When Santana’s (near the library) closed down, the smell of burning gunpowder was reduced substantially…

I know the people that are owners of the club. I have been in the club and it is still under construction. I was told the same thing that DJ Edge said regarding the diversity of music that this club will provide. They are going to cater to the 25 and up crowd and it will definitely be an upscale club. I think that with Dayton’s declining business in the downtown area, resident of this city would be excited to have a club that would cater to their taste. They are going to have many ammenities that are not even advertised in your comments. Valet parking, special parking for club members, there are many big screen tvs all over the club and around the enormous bar. It will offer many patrons to sit and watch sporting events at the bar instead of the normal 10 seats that bars usually have. I think that people should not pass judgement until the club is opening and they see for themselves. I am a true believe in the club owners and what they are bringing to the city and I think once people see for themselves, they will be a frequent patron.

Wow…I can not believe that in 2011, ignorant people still post comments such as some of these. Especially the “nasty A* hood Rat” comment. Please do explain Sam..What/Who exactly fits the description of a “nasty a* hood rat”. The negativity and the things people dare to say while hiding behind technology with anonymous comments….I’m sorry but not serving Hennessy and Courvoisier does not ensure the longevity of a nightclub. These business owners have so many other things to worry about, without the bad press and media. You would think that as low as the economy is in dtwn Dayton, that the cities Media would encourage business for these new clubs rather than attempt to sabotage them in the publics eye, while using words such as “supposedly” and “upscale hype”. This is not the first negative article from DDN that I’ve read encouraging a negative outlook on this soon to open night club (Vault). I personally and sincerely hope these nightclubs open and live up to the “upscale hype” and more. However, why is it that I sense sarcasm, in our writer Ms.Katie Wedells warms wishes of success and reaching the hype surrounding these new night clubs. I know why…because she wouldnt have anything negative to write about, and would therefore have to eat her words. I wish you sucess as well Katie and I hope you live up to the hype of your negative articles. (sense my sarcasm?)

I think its a great ideal for both clubs. We certainly can use the job opportunities. I personally would like to see a 30 & up nightclub that is classy and upscale.

@Katy First off you incorrectly quoted me. I did not say “nasty a*s hood rats”. I said ” some hood rat, nasty a*s night club”. If you don’t know the description of a hood rat, just look out the window at any Dayton street and you’ll see them. I saw a woman peeing in a busy parking lot (in broad daylight) in Dayton the other day…that’s a hodd rat. So please take your surburban mom comments and take a look around at the REAL Dayton. Drugs, whores, robbery and thugs run rampant and it is a law enforcement proven fact that crime goes up in areas with night clubs.

Ms. Katy is Blind! You sound so ignorant!!! The majority of the people migrating to Dayton to buy drugs from the gangsters, thugs, and whatever are coming from….OAKWOOD, KETTERING, CENTERVILLE, BELLBROOK and beyond. Trust me, I know, because i live in Dayton “proud to say” and i’m sure you do to. God is the only judge and you sound as silly as silly as one of the crack heads that come to Dayton to buy dope! P.S. There are drugs, violence & crime EVERYWHERE…..

hatemagnet - you sound about as intelligent as a 5 year old. If you want to lecture people on “supporting your city”, please do it with proper grammer. Maybe thats part of the reason people don’t like Dayton and think everyone is trash, we represent ourselves well with people like that speaking for us. Jeez. And as far as these clubs go - with every good intention they may have of “upscale” or a “polished crowd” its gonna turn into what every club does in Dayton. Trash. They’ll have the same lame a*s college crowd every club around here has. Or the same post college lame asses that haven’t left town because they like feeling “popular” in Dayton. One will inevitably end up a hip hop club and have nothing but problems. The other will struggle along until it closes. Its unfortunate that Dayton can’t maintain a nightlife, how many clubs have been in the spot Hammerjax is? Have a Nice Day Cafe, Banana Joes, The Yellow Rose - closed, closed, closed and relocated. Hammerjax is clearly on it’s last leg. Maybe its not the clubs, maybe its the clientele in this area. If you go to any other big city, to the “upscale” clubs, you won’t see a huge crowd of Affliction and Tap Out shirts. Thats all you see outside of Pulse Nightclub, they also claimed to “upscale”. All these people are doing is throwing their money down the drain. Good luck.

I love the idea of bringing more nightclubs to Dayton. The haters will always hate and the lovers will always love. (Negativity won’t get you far) I came back to Dayton after being gone for over a decade and am glad they are finally seeing that a mature audience is in need of things to do. Other than a neighborhood bar scene, Dragons games or random festivals we lack a place to let loose and dance. Hats off to the new clubs, I wish you great success! Please also consider making a 30 and up night not just a college night, love that idea! There are plenty of old school Dayton heads out there that fit into a nitche for at least 1 night a week to break out of the norm and get their drink on. (Well some are def. stuck in that rut, but others have grown up slightly and need the outlet) Cheers!
