After weekend festivals, stay for a nightcap
Summer must be approaching because festivals abound this weekend. And what better excuse to make a night of it than having already paid for gas and parking?
Here are some suggestions for night spots to check out in the area of this weekend’s biggest festival/fair events.
When: 5 to 9 p.m. Friday
Where: Carillon Historical Park, 1000 Carillon Blvd., Dayton
Where to hang afterwards: Brown Street
Why: The laid back college bar scene is the perfect end to a day of sampling beer, food and music. If the weather is nice, lounge on the patio at Buffalo Wild Wings, 1900 Brown St.; Milano’s, 1834 Brown St.; Bargos, 1151 Brown St.; or Jimmie’s Cornerstone, 1001 Brown St. All four are great choices for a snack if you’re still hungry. Plus, the UD students are gone for the summer so you can enjoy a nightcap without the crazy crowds.

When: 7 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sunday
Where: Most viewings are at The Neon theater, 130 E. Fifth St., Dayton
After spot: Oregon District
Why: Proximity is obviously a plus, but the plethora of live music options also make Fifth Street’s bars the perfect compliment to a day of film watching. You’ll be more than ready to get out of your seat and dance! On Friday night, check out Puzzle of Light at the Trolley Stop or the Bringers of Disease CD release show at Blind Bob’s. On Saturday, try 5 Story Plunge at the Oregon Express, ’80s music at the Dublin Pub or Curious Animals at the Trolley Stop.

After spot: The Wine Gallery, 5 W. Monument Ave.
Why: Since you’re downtown, head up Main Street to The Wine Gallery where you can sip some wine from around the world. You’re sure to find something that complements whatever kind of cuisine you enjoyed at the international cultural festival.

Katie, nice piece to remind folks that there’s plenty of places to hang out downtown; however, next time be sure to check your use of compliment vs complement. See everyone downetown this weekend.

After running around to all the events, I’ll be exhausted. Heading home to bed….

Will there be a lot of young drunk loud punks? Will attractive young women be cheap and willing to open their thighs for us nice white guys? By the way, will cops be waiting outside to give us OVIs, after we start to drive away? I don’t and won’t buy their drinks, I think, making a deal for their meals; I don’t feed ‘em unless I get to breed ‘em.

I agreee with The Duke. If I spend fifty dollars for booze, food and gas, I had better at least get a piece of a*s, or maybe head in bed instead.
