Aquarius reopening this weekend; kicks off ultimate drag competition soon
Hey remember that time we told you that Club Aquarius, 135 E. Second St., was closing and would be sold to a new owner?
April Fools? The details of the failed deal aren’t as important as the fact that the club is reopening under the same owner, but supposedly new management, this weekend.
Their new hours are 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
The scheduled lineup of summer events already looks pretty promising. Soon it will be like they never left!
Grand Reopening
An all new Sexy Saturday show with DJ Almighty, DJ Mikey, and performances by Gage Almighty, Daray Lorez (Miss Aquarius 2011), Shampaine Lopez (Aquarius Entertainer of the Year 2011), Summer Day, Jade Sexton, Aleksandra Grimm, and Blu Ballz
When: 9 p.m., Saturday, May 14
The bite: $5 cover charge
For those who can’t wait
They’ll have a soft reopening on Friday. “Two Queens, One King, and a Drag Show” will feature performances by Foxxie Lane, Tasha Salad, and Tony D’Lorenzo.
What’s Next?
You could be! Starting May 26, Aquarius will search for the next big star with a weekly competition called “neXt: 8 Queens. 8 Kings. One Winner.” This is a competition to find someone new. Current employees and hosts aren’t eligible to enter.
Judges will choose the 8 Queens and 8 Kings to participate during an open call the first week. Then the weekly Thursday night lineup will feature themed competitions including “Best ’80s Drag” and a music video challenge. The judges will vote off 1 Queen and 1 King each week for the first 5 weeks. The last 3 weeks the crowd will vote for their favorites and 2 contestants will be voted off each week. The winner will receive a title and 12 paid bookings at the club.
If you think you’ve got what it takes, show up by 10 p.m., May 26 with your best drag number prepared.
