Happy National Tequila Day!
National Tequila Day, July 24, is a holiday for everyone who loves the Mexican national treasure. Whether it’s a shot of Montezuma Gold that puts some hair on your chest, or a smooth sip of Patron Silver, all tequila drinkers can unite this Saturday in their love of blue agave.
If you’re looking to celebrate with a margarita, try this twist on the classic created especially for National Tequila Day by mixologist Jonathan Pogash for Corzo brand tequila.
Corzo Evolutionary Margarita
Ingredients
2 parts Corzo Reposado Tequila
1/2 parts Grand Marnier
1/2 parts agave nectar
3/4 parts fresh lime juice
6-8 small chunks of your choice of pepper (yellow, red, or orange)
Process: In a mixing glass, muddle the pepper in the agave nectar and lime juice. Then add remaining ingredients and shake well with ice. Strain over ice into rocks glass. Garnish: pepper, lime and optional salt-rim.
If you want to branch out from the margarita family, there are plenty of other ways to mix up tequila. My favorite thing about tequila drinks is their names. My experience with ta-kill-ya was a religious one. My excessive consuption, once, (once is enough), caused The Lord to appear in front of me…but he was speaking Spanish. I don’t speak Spanish. I knew he was displeased as he was frowning and wagging his index finger back and forth…letting me know with sign language what I had done wrong. After that, he had me drive the “porcelin bus” for an hour or two, and after that, take a lesson in the proper way to experience the dry heaves. It was an interesting evening as I met The Lord, received a driving lesson from him, and was able to exercise my stomach mucles for a while. Good stuff…Tequila. I believe God gave Mexicans Tequila so they wouldn’t rule the world.
