Mint is everywhere… what to do? Cocktails!

Mint is one of those herbs that when left unchecked can take over just about everything in its path. So, combine a voracious growing herb with near perfect growing conditions and you get one thing - a heckuva lot of mint.

If you’re in the same boat, you’re most likely searching for ideas and recipes to use your treasure trove of mint. Here’s a few ideas.

Of course, there’s the traditional Mint Julep - a springtime favorite and the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. Another popular drink that uses mint is the Mojito - a favorite of Ernest Hemingway. Nevertheless, I was looking for a little something off the beaten path - so what’s a lounge lizard to do but create a cocktail of their very own.

Presenting the…

Mintilicious

Ingredients:

  • 10 or so mint leaves
  • 3 teaspoons agave nectar - I used the light variety (be sure to add a little more if you like your drinks on the sweet side)
  • 3 ounces of grapefruit juice
  • 1.5 ounces of your Favorite vodka or for a twist , use a grapefruit infused Vodka
  • Ice

Other items:

  • Muddler
  • Drink Shaker
  • Martini or rocks glass

How to: Place the mint leaves in the bottom of a drink shaker; add the Agave nectar and muddle. Add ice to shaker. Then add grapefruit juice and vodka; cover and shake. Pour into a rocks glass over ice or fill a martini glass if you’re looking for something a little more dramatic. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

I like my drinks a little on the bitter side - so if you like yours sweeter, a little more agave nectar may be in order.
