Chippendales bringing Vegas show to Dayton

Yep, it’s not a joke ladies - those Chippendales. The bow ties, the dancing, the abs! But Dayton native and 5-year Chippendale dancer, Chris Holliman, wants you to know that a Chippendale show is more than scantily-clad men dressed as cowboys. (Of course there is that number where they are dressed as cowboys!)

“A lot of people hear Chippendales and think of some guy that comes to your office with a boombox,” he said. (We actually prefer to picture Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley in a battle of the bods on SNL!)

“It’s an actual production show,” Holliman said. “It’s the same show they do in Vegas.”

Holliman and his six-pack, which were discovered at a mall, have traveled the world dancing for crowds of lucky ladies that he said can range in age from 18 to 80.

Santarchy Dayton 2009

Santarchy involves a large gathering of people dressed as various incarnations of Santa Claus — and this event that takes place in cities across the globe is coming to Dayton this Saturday. The ultimate goal is to infuse the good cheer and spirit of the holidays with just a wee bit of bawdy behavior on a bar crawl. Some of the Santarchy rules listed on the Santarchy Dayton Web site: You must dress like Santa. You should “Ho-Ho-Ho” like Santa. You ought to give out gifts like Santa (naughty for the adults, nice for the kids). You gotta drink like Santa. Santa doesn’t get arrested. Santa is the answer for all questions. Where’s the next stop? Only Santa knows.

WHERE: That’s for the party planners to know and you to find out. Sign up at www.santarchydayton.com to receive text messages telling you where to meet and where to go next.

WHEN: Beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19

THE BITE: Depends on how much you plan on imbibing — it’s all up to you.

New program brings science to the bar

Tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m., the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery will host its first Pub Science program at Blind Bob’s in the Oregon District.

The program for adults looking to mix libations with learning will feature Dr. David Goldstein, Chair of Wright State’s Department of Biological Sciences.

The topic? Cryopreservation.

“The idea of a living creature being able to survive being frozen and reanimated is more than just a science fiction fantasy,” says Susan Pion, Vice President, Education for the Boonshoft Museum. “Some amphibians go through this process each winter to survive the bitter cold, and Dr. Goldstein is one of the many scientists working to discover just how they accomplish this.”

According to the museum, the program has been, “designed to encourage lifelong learners to explore topics ranging from forensic science to nanotechnology … It will provide a forum for experts to share their passion for their work with people who are interested in learning about the various science-based topics, but may not have a background in the subject matter.”

The Pub Science series will take place on the second Tuesday of each month at various locations throughout Dayton.

Admission tonight is free of charge but donations will be accepted at the door. Blind Bob’s (430 East Fifth Street, Dayton) is offering a 10% discount on all food orders from Pub Science participants during the event.

For more information, call (937) 275-7431, ext. 116 or visit www.BoonshoftMuseum.org
