Alcohol-flavored popcorn??
There is a new food product out there that caught our attention … Pub-Corn. Alcohol-flavored popcorn (with no alcohol content) comes in Beer, Pina Colada and Irish Cream flavors. The Pub-Corn Web site reports that, “Our research and development team is testing new flavors daily. Individuals can sign up for new flavor alerts at www.Pub-Corn.com. Anyone who would like to request a specific flavor can e-mail flavors@Pub-Corn.com.”
We got a chance to sample all three flavors of Pub-Corn here in the office and the Irish Cream is just plain awful and I wasn’t the only one gagging over the lingering aftertaste. The Pina Colada and beer flavors, while edible, weren’t anything to write home about. The beer flavor tastes nothing like beer which kind of defeats the purpose of eating “Pub-Corn.”
Here’s a clip of a TODAY show segment featuring Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb sampling Pub-Corn. My thoughts on watching — I can not believe that both gave a thumbs up to the Irish Cream flavored popcorn. Were they really eating the same stuff we were?
For those interested, Pub-Corn can be purchased on the company’s Web site, although we would recommend you save your money for something you’re actually going to enjoy eating. This product does bring a question to mind: Is there any food item you think would work with alcohol flavoring? Anyone have any thoughts? I really like Orbit’s mojito gum but overall I don’t think alcohol translates well as a laboratory created flavor. The fact that “medium chain triglycerides” are listed as an ingredient should have been my first clue …
