Sam Adams rolls out Imperial Series

Attention all Sam Fans out there … The Boston Beer Co., best known for its Samuel Adams brand, has announced that it will be brewing an “imperial” series. “A series of three beers that represent some of the biggest and most intesnse beers we have ever brewed,” according to a mailer posted on the Sam Adams Web site.

The Imperial Series, which should be available nationwide sometime in February, includes two new beers, Samuel Adams Imperial Stout and Samuel Adams Imperial White plus an “amped up recipe” of the Samuel Adams Double Bock which has been available seasonally in years past.

In addition to a higher alcohol content (Imperial White will be 8.3% ABV compared to Sam Adams White at 5.2% while the Double Bock will be 8.8% ABV) there will be a higher price tag to go along with (4-packs will have a suggested retail price of $9.99). The company plans to make all three available year-round.

“The Samuel Adams Imperial Series will offer beer lovers’ an intense version of some of their favorite traditional beer styles by boosting the ingredients and testing the limits of each traditional style,” the company said in a press release. “With more robust flavors and nearly twice the alcohol by volume of your average beer, each style in the Imperial Series is intended to be savored and appreciated like a fine wine.”

If you’re interested, here’s a nice review of the Imperial White. So, does Sam Adams offering these bigger, more extreme beers, of any interest to you or do you prefer your Sam Adams as is?
