Love potions for him and her

There’s always more than two ways that you can decide to go on a path and the possibilities are practically limitless when it comes to the path of cocktails.

If you’re looking to go out this Valentine’s Day but lack a firm plan or vision for what the night might have in store, you’d better make some decisions post haste. The first thing to tackle on the list is simple — you can either stay in or go out. If you’re still looking to go out, click here.

If you’re looking to stay in, we’ve compiled some recipes we enjoy and thought you would as well, with and without alcohol. It’s a he-said, she-said take on Valentine’s Day cocktails.

HE SAID

Ingredients: 1 3/4 ounce bourbon (A better bourbon like Woodford Reserve will do the trick); Just shy of 3/4 ounce of sweet vermouth; 3/4 ounce Grand Mariner. Shake well and pour over muddled cherries. A dash of Angostura bitters optional.

Directions: Start with six maraschino cherries in the bottom of a rocks glass and muddle. In a drink shaker filled about half full with crushed ice add. Cherry Sipper (aka Roy Rogers with a heavy cherry twist)

For those who want to forgo the alcohol, here is a take that will work in the same vein. Directions: Start with six maraschino cherries in the bottom of a rocks glass and muddle. Fill with crushed ice. Add 3/4 ounce maraschino cherry juice. Fill with sprite or 7UP (use the cherry if you can find it). Top with maraschino cherry.

SHE SAID

No liquor or liqueur says Valentine’s Day more to me than X-Rated Fusion Liqueur. The bright pink concoction of french vodka, blood orange, mango and passion fruits is a light, flirty refreshing mixture that’s perfect for a night out with the girls or an evening in with your plus one. Pink Wink

Ingredients: 1 1/2 ounce citrus-infused vodka, 1 ounce X-Rated Fusion Liqueur, 3/4 ounce pineapple juice, 1 strawberry Directions: Combine ingredients in a shaker. Pour over ice, garnish with a strawberry.

Cran-Dandy Cooler

For those who want to forgo the alcohol, here is a fruity mocktail option that has received high marks on the Web site allrecipes.com.

Ingredients: 1/4 cup cranberry juice, 2 tablespoons pineapple juice, 2 tablespoons orange juice, 1/8 (4 ounce) jar maraschino cherries, 3/4 teaspoon lemon juice, 1/8 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle ginger ale, 1/8 orange, sliced in rounds. Directions: Combine cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, cherry juice and lemon juice. Just before serving, slowly add ginger ale; stir to blend. Serve over ice in a glass. Garnish with cherry and orange slice.
