That beer is how much?

A post of the three most expensive beers according to a blog dedicated to unusual items (www.dailycognition.com) puts a beer called Vielle Bon Secours which can only be found at a London bar called the Bierdrome (don’t you love that name?) at No. 1 with a whopping price tag of about $1,000 (whatever the exchange rate is on that particular day for 500 pounds). A “Dread Pirate Roberts” who posted to the blog entry provides the following mathematical formula:

$1,000.00 a bottle = 66 cases of 30 paks @ $14.99 = 1980 CANS / 66 cases of 20 longnecks = 1320

He has a point, don’t you think? Another expensive item I recently came across is El Paso’s Don Lunas Grand Reserve Tequila, a limited edition run that will set you back $2,500 a bottle as compared to the Dos Lunas Reposado, which won a gold medal at the International Review of Spirits competition in Chicago, for $49.99. This pricey tag has a variety of factors at play: it’s been aged more than 10 years, is pure blue agave Tequila and comes from the personal stock of a distiller based near Guadalajara. The bottles are numbered and arrive in hand blown Crystal that comes inside locking wood boxes accompanied by a sterling silver necklace and two keys. Take heart: if you’re on a budget you can always order a shot for a scant $100.
