The six worst food trends of 2007
The editors at Epicurious.com have put together a list of the six worst food trends of 2007. And they are (drum roll please) … Macho fast food, vanity vodkas, the ubiquitous $40 entree, hot spots you can’t find (doesn’t really apply to Dayton), truffles the size of a softball, restaurants in “preview.”
Go here to read more about the reasons behind their choices, but it raises a more interesting question … What do you think - after eating out during the year 2007 - the worst trends, fads and movements have been in Dayton’s dining scene? I’ll start: servers with headsets, menus that operate on the theory that bigger is better, no substitutions and menus that try to be everything to everyone. What do you think?

I’m tired of seeing mini hamburgers on every menu in town.

What could be so wrong with a truffle the size of a softball? Hell, I’d take one the size of a PEA. Those spoiled New Yorkers …

How about the $8-10 appetizer? Nothing like a couple of those to double your final bill! Barleycorns has a dozen wings for $10.75? What a bargain! Along with that, there’s the $9 burger, the $3 beer, and if you can’t think of a name for something just call it a bistro. Finally there’s the 2500 calorie fried onion with dipping sauce (in case the grease doesn’t already make it slide down) or french fried potatoes covered with cheese, bacon, and its own dipping sauce. And you haven’t even gotten to the entree yet!
