Our Champagne chair entry
We blogged earlier about the furniture company Design Within Reach (think clean, simple reproductions of mid-century modern classics that have been authorized by the original license holders) holding a Champagne Chair Contest for folks to use their right brain and create an original miniature chair using only the foil, label, cage and cork from no more than two Champagne bottles. And the Lizards thinking it would be easy and fun, decided we should enter. What seemed like a quick project turned into a grueling creative task spread over several hours, with breaks to sip our respective cocktails. What we found was this: It’s very, very hard to create miniature chairs and has given us a greater appreciation of doll house furniture. It was a good use of the trash left over from New Years. It was, as we had imagined, entertaining. Here’s what we came up with - from the beginning:
Tools at the ready and 30 minutes set aside, the Lounge Lizards set about on their trek to create the perfect - award winning chair.
More tools will help create the winning chair, right?
After more than an hour this is what the Lounge Lizards had to show for their efforts.

Time to start with the remaining ingredients.
Several cocktails later - the Lounge Lizards arrive at their inspired design…

And the winning entry (as photographed in our makeshift studio).

We have called it the “Spark Chair” and here was the blurb we sent along with it: “Inspired by the inscription “Spark” on the top of the Champagne cork and by the Apollo moon program we designed a chair perfect for the space age of design. The base is reminiscent of the lunar module. One sit in this seat and you’ll be saying “lift off.”
Cheers!

Love the chair - will it hold me?
