Making music is on the rise
In a growing trend, more and more Americans are making and recording music right now than they were doing 10 years ago. And the trend is only growing. Check out these stats:
2006 Music USA: NAMM Global Report
More than one-half of U.S. households (52%) has at least one person, age 5 or older, who currently plays a musical instrument - a total of 156 million people
40% of U.S. households have two or more musicians - that’s 120 million people
The fastest growing segment of music makers is between the ages of 18 and 34; an increase of 5% percent since 2003
The U.S. market accounts for 42.7% of musical instrument purchases
MySpace has six million artist sites and growing.
At its peak, MP3.com had 25 million registered users and sent out four million audio files a day.
The home recording market alone has increased by over 700 percent since 2001 - from $40 million in 2001 to $300 million in 2006.
Now if that’s not bar talk I don’t know what is ….
One last thing … if one or more of the above applies to you, a Web site I recently discovered - TuneCore.com - can help you with posting your MP3’s onto different music retailers Web sites including iTunes. And if you do try it out let us know how it goes.
