iTunes releases its best-sellers for 2007

So, was the best selling music of the year the best that 2007 saw? You decide, but I’m going to weigh in and say no.

iTUNES BEST-SELLING ALBUMS OF 2007

  1. Maroon 5 “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long”

  2. Amy Winehouse “Back To Black”

  3. Kanye West “Graduation”

  4. Daughtry “Daughtry”

  5. Colbie Caillat “Coco”

  6. Linkin Park “Minutes to Midnight”

  7. Various Artists “High School Musical 2 (Original Soundtrack)”

  8. Timbaland “Shock Value”

  9. John Mayer “Continuum”

  10. Various Artists “Hairspray (Soundtrack to the Motion Picture)”

iTUNES BEST-SELLING SONGS OF 2007

  1. Fergie “Big Girls Don’t Cry (Personal)”

  2. Gwen Stefani “The Sweet Escape”

  3. Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah”

  4. Avril Lavigne “Girlfriend”

  5. Fergie “Glamorous”

  8. Akon “Don’t Matter”

  9. Timbaland “The Way I Are (feat. Keri Hilson & D.O.E.)

  10. Shop Boyz “Party Like a Rock Star”

And now a few questions … Maroon 5 is really iTunes top selling album of the year? Really?!?!?? Are you surprised at all by this or did you buy a copy helping it get there? The other surprise on that list for me was the Hairspray soundtrack at No. 10 … did more folks buy the soundtrack than saw the film? What do you think of the list? I realize this isn’t national sales, but knowing the demographic that uses iTunes, the results are still interesting regardless. Most important question of the day: What were your favorite discs for 2007? Anything that flew under the radar? Share, share away.

My No. 1 is Radiohead’s “In Rainbows.” Here’s one of the tracks (“Jigsaw Falling Into Place”) to listen to as you scan other blog entries. Enjoy! Or not, this could turn into one of your least favorites from 2007, but that’s the beauty of music now isn’t it?

why the big surprise about HAIRSPRAY? Maybe you didn’t go see it, but many did! In fact, my mother went twice!

Most of that “Music” is shovel fed to the mindless sheep of America by countless “top 40” radio stations. Why do so many people rely on others to tell them what they should like or listen to? It’s a shame.
