“An Affair of the Arts”
At Thursday evenings Culture Works “An Affair of the Arts” fundraiser held at the Ponitz Center on the campus of Sinclair Community College, mistress of ceremonies Sharon Howard spoke of a vibrant Dayton arts community that has been recognized nationally.
The third annual dinner event culminated in a live auction of large wooden models turned into art works by local artists that alone raised $19,100 over the course of the evening in funds directly benefiting local arts organizations. Not too shabby for an organization that “began quietly and modestly with a campaign goal of $250,000 in 1974, (and) is today the 16th largest united arts fund in the country,” according to a letter in the program from “An Affair of the Arts” Chair Debby Goldenberg. The Culture Works campaign has now grown to over $1.7 million.
Of the 14 total live auction items, Cincinnati artist Ursula Roma’s piece created for Cityfolk took top dollar selling for $3,500. The handsome found objects sculpture smartly incorporated various musical instruments including a guitar, violin and flute (pictured below).

Covach, Carol Finley, D. Tristan Cupp, Leesa Haapapuro, Maha Nagarajan, Rebecca E. Tsaloff, Canaan Good, Pierre Nagley and Saraphim Sill.

I think this town has a lot of great things to offer as far as cultural ammenities. I was at the event and the auction items were neat. The mistress of ceremonies left something to be desired.
