Bad beer, it’s an American tradition
So, according to a new book out - Beer & Food: An American History - colonial beer was pretty much undrinkable due to barley being scarce and anything coming from England that could have quenched a Pilgrim’s thirst probably wouldn’t have made it to the New World. In fact, American beer didn’t really come to pass as something that a person of even indiscriminite taste could keep down until the 1800s according to author Bob Skilnik. A recent book review posted on blogcritics magazine summarizes saying, “this book would be a valuable asset to anyone interested in the history of beer in America. However, it may take some patience and thoughtful reading in order to absorb the information presented.”

Still, it makes you appreciate the cool thirst quench a simple High Life offers a whole lot more, doesn’t it? What will you be toasting the harvest, the relatives and the bird with this year? A microbrew, wine, cocktail or a good old American macrobrew? I know what I’m leaning to and all I’ll say is I’ve read somewhere it’s an American tradition …
