New movies starring you!
I haven’t felt the sting yet (not a big Leno or Letterman talk show girl), but fear looms that some of my beloved television could be affected by the current strike by the Writers Guild of America.
In an effort to find other avenues to occupy my time just in case I run out of new television to get sucked into, I stumbled across something highly entertaining from those smarties at JibJab — the team that is better known for producing animated musical skits starring politicians (remember “This Land” starring George Bush and John Kerry that made the rounds four years ago?).
They’ve jumped on the user generated bandwagon (no writers needed) with a new feature called “Starring You!” It’s easy to do and as I mentioned, the results are highly amusing. You download a photo of yourself, or your boss or a co-worker or a friend or all of the above, crop it and then watch yourself take on some fancy moves that would make “Dancing With the Stars” judges look twice. Don’t feel like the two-step or tango? Choose a fake movie trailer like “Math Camp Massacre” or the Dirty Harry-inspired “Unnecessary Force.” The newest posts are for “Night of the Living Democrats” and “Night of the Living Republicans” — where you can battle liberal or conservative zombies, take your pick. It’s a nice post-election night stress reliever and still timely with Halloween fresh in our minds.
With the WGA on strike, this may be some of the only new stuff to watch after a few months (hope not!). Go to www.jibjab.com/starring_you and take a stab at it.
