The Perfect Frozen Margarita
Jean and Bernadine Jines who hail from Enon dropped my esteemed colleague Mark Fisher a line this week sharing a story and a recipe to go with what they say is the perfect frozen margarita. Based on the drinks title, the Lounge Lizards will be trying this one out sooner than later I’m thinking …
The note reads: THE PERFECT FROZEN MARGARITA
This recipe was obtained from the Margaritaville Restaurant in Corpus Christi, Texas. We had gone to the restaurant several times and had always thoroughly enjoyed their margaritas. After we’d been there enough times that I thought it was appropriate to ask about how the delicious concoctions were made, I asked the waitress what mix they used (hoping to be able to make them at home). Her response was, “We don’t use a mix.” After a long pause to let that disclosure sink in and watch the disappointment on my face, she asked, “Would you like the recipe?” My answer was both prompt and enthusiastic. “Yes!!” She then told me the very simple and delicious recipe below. Even if frozen margaritas are not your favorite, you’ll love this one.
Put into blender:
1 - 6 oz. can frozen limeade (Minutemaid®, we’ve found, has a lot of pulp)
Using the same can the limeade came in as a measuring device, add a little over ½ of the can Triple Sec (60 proof). Vary as to your taste - more Triple Sec will make it sweeter; less than ½ can will make it more tart.
Again, using the limeade can, fill the can slightly less than half full with gold tequila and pour into the blender. This measure can also be adjusted for your taste (or tolerance for alcohol).
(If the 6 oz. can of limeade is not available, you can use the 12 oz. one and just pour up half of the blended limeade, tequila and Triple Sec mixture (before the ice is added) for use in a later batch. If that use is to be at a later date, just pour it up into an appropriate sized container and put it in the freezer.)
Blend with enough ice to make 40 oz. If you like salt in your margaritas, but don’t like the salt shower in your beard or upon your chest/bosom you can add the salt directly into the blender. The salt tempers the harshness of the tequila and the sourness of the lime.
The 6 oz. can (or half the 12 oz. can) makes cocktails for 4 or servings for 2 if you have it with a lot of nachos - and don’t plan on driving the rest of the evening!
Have never tried this recipe for a margarita on the rocks but ‘spect it would work just fine - just don’t blend it with the ice.”
Thanks for sharing with us! What are your favorite cocktail recipes — margarita or otherwise?

But…, I don’t care for frozen margaritas; I only like it on the rocks, and then, it must have freshly squeezed lime!

I agree with Cathy on the rocks- it allows the flavors to come through more distinctly without a brain freeze. Also use a good reposada tequila, don’t ruin a good anejo with all the mixings. Try a little splash of Amaretto as well. In salute to “Tequila Day” we made a pitcher and picked up some food from “Burrito King” on Valley Street for a great summer dinner.

Yes, the best way to drink a margarita is on the rocks with fresh squeezed lime, but COME ON, who can resist a frozen margarita on a hot summer evening….its just plain fun! My recipe, is similar to the one posted, but no triple sec (too sweet in an already sweetened limeade) 1 can frozen limeade, 1 can FULL of Jose Quervo, fill the rest of the blender with ice and pulverize….YUMMMMMMMMMY!

Why mess with the symmetry that is one part tequila to one part triple sec (or Grand Marnier or Cointreau) to one part fresh-squeezed lime juice? On the rocks or over shaved ice. Delicious and refreshing. One of the commenters over on Uncorked suggests we ask folks to reveal their favorite tequila stories. Um, everybody else go first, okay?

Dear tsk tsk: A friendly word of advice: before casting stones at others about their “grammer,” learn how to spell the word.
