Happy National Tequila Day!!!
Yes, there is such a day devoted to tequila, but then I’m convinced they have a day for pretty much anything you can think of so it really doesn’t come as much of a shock.
National Tequila Day falls on July 24, so mark your calendars. One tequila I’ve particularly enjoyed has been the Partida Tequila brand made with organic agave nectar. It’s not as strong as other tequilas and has a crisp, clean finish. If you can find it, it’s worth trying out.
To help celebrate the day, here is a cocktail recipe for you to sip on that puts a fancy, fruity spin on the Margarita courtesy of Tequila Don Julio, a popular brand out of Mexico:
Very Berry Rita by Moises Galarza of Gabriela’s in New York City
Ingredients:
1 ounce Tequila Don Julio Blanco*
1/4 cup sliced strawberries
1/4 cup raspberries
1/4 cup blueberries
1/2 ounce Grand Marnier
Splash of limonada
Fresh squeezed lime juice
5 ice cubes
Preparation: 1. In a Boston shaker cocktail glass, muddle strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. 2. Add Tequila Don Julio, Grand Marnier, limonada, splash of fresh squeezed lime juice and ice into shaker. Cover and shake well. 3. Strain contents from shaker into glass.
Yield: 1 drink *Cocktail can also be prepared with other brands of tequila
And if you have any good recipes to help celebrate the day, please share them with us!

On this very day 22 years ago I won the Female Division of the Cuervo Classic by downing 22 shots of tequilla during a sand volleyball tourney….can you say crazy college stunt! These days I’m a much more responsible drinker and prefer my tequilla in a Green Iguana margarita: 1 oz tequilla 1/2 oz Midori melon liquer fill with sweet and sour Cheers!
