Best Simpsons epi-sode eveeeer …

Can there really be a best episode? Really??? Apparently Vanity Fair thinks so. Check out their list of the 10 best episodes of all time in honor of the Simpsons movie that opens in theaters this Friday (July 27).

I can’t name a favorite episode - it’s just too hard. Instead I’ll say that I’m a big fan of Simpsons quotes that poke humor at other cartoons. Here are a few that I’ve particularly enjoyed:

Marge: Homer, is this how you pictured married life?
Homer: Yeah, pretty much, except we drove around in a van solving mysteries.

Homer: If The Flintstones has taught us anything, it’s that pelicans can be used to mix cement.

Homer (sung to the Flintstones song): Simpson! Homer Simpson! He’s the greatest guy in history. From the, Town of Springfield! He’s about to hit a chestnut tree! (Hits tree)

I also am a fan of the long list of various brands of Duff Beer which include but are not limited to: Duffenbrau, Crystal Duff, Duff Dry, Duff Ice, Duff Stout, Duff Zero, Lady Duff, Tartar Control Duff and Future Duff Beer.

At the end of the day, the real question in all this is, what’s your favorite episode? It’s a toughie, we know. Take your time.

Grandpa: “I used to be with it, then they changed what “it” was- now what I’m with isn’t “it”- and what’s “it” seems wierd and scary to me.” Favorite Episode: “Homer’s Enemy”- Frank Grimes, the new hire at the plant that takes an instant disliking to Homer.

When Homer eats the super hot chili and he starts hallucinating. He is addressed by an imaginary creature with the voice of Johnny Cash.

Best Simpsons Ever: Treehouse of Horror XIII, season 14, first third: Send in the Clones. Homer buys a magic evil hammock and starts cloning himself and the clones just get more and stupider and threaten to swamp the earth. Hilarious…

Any episode where 1) Barney is belching, or 2) any where Bart and Lisa are making crank phone calls.

“I heard those things are awfully loud” “They ride as softly as a cloud” “Is there a chance the track may bend?” “Not on your life, my Hindu friend” “What about us brain dead slobs?” “You’ll be given cushy jobs” “Where you sent here by the devil?” “No good man I’m on the level” “The ring broke off my pudding can” “Take my pen knife my good man”

The episode with Princess Jasmine and the spy camera is still my favorite, but running close behind are the one where Lisa consults the fortuneteller, the one in which Apu gets married, and the one where Homer tries to jump a bike over Springfield gorge.

In no real order: 1) “The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson.” Homer, the Twin Towers, drinking binge flashback in the form of a silent short, and khlav kalash. 2) “This Little Wiggy.” Perhaps Ralph Wiggum’s finest hour. 3) “A Fish Called Selma.” Phil Hartman at his best. 4) “Treehouse of Horror VI.” Living statues, Willy as Freddie Krueger, and 3D Homer. 5) “Midnight Rx.” Some really fabulous social satire. 6) “Das Bus.” Lord of the Flies, Simpsons-style. 7) “Lost Our Lisa.” The best Lisa episode. 8) “Mountain of Madness.” Perhaps best Burns episode. 9) “The Mysterious Voyage of Homer.” Brilliance. 10) “The Strong Arms of the Ma.” Maybe the best Marge episode, and an amazing parody of Carlo’s neighborhood beatdown in The Godfather.

My favorite episode is an oldie, but a goodie. Season 1, Episode 4; “There’s No Disgrace Like Home”. The family goes to see Dr. Marvin Monroe who proceeds to cure them with a session of Shock Therapy. It doesn’t go as planned which results in a hilarious scene in which they all shock each other repeatedly. Hilarious!
