Who cooks anymore?

Intriguing piece from last weekend’s NYT Sunday Magazine about how much less we’re using our nice, souped-up kitchens these days…

Read it here … but it’s long, so you may be tired and hungry enough afterward that you’ll have to call for a pizza…

Thoughts? Do you cook less than you used to? And when you cook, do you really cook?

What’s it all mean?

I found out in June that I have Celiac disease, so my food choices at restaurants are slim to none. I cooked fairly often before, but now I have to cook all the time. The upside: I lost 5 inches off of my waistline within a month, and I’m saving a lot of cash by eating at home.

Ron,We long ago came to the conclusion that if we cook (grill something make a salad and a fresh veggie) all but one night a week we could save a huge amount of $$$$ So one night a week we go out, sometimes its fast food sometimes its Melting Pot…depends on the mood…breakfast is always eaten at home (just cant see paying someone to fix eggs for me)and lunch is packed except on fridays.

I don’t cook as much as I used to, though I enjoy cooking, because it’s just my husband and me now. When my out-of-town family visits, I love to fix their favorites.

Get with the program, Ron! Kroger is making $$$ because it’s always cheaper to eat at home and everyone doesn’t make YOUR inflated salary. So your place is littered w/pizza boxes? Grow up.

The restaurants on Fairfield Road are always filled. even on Tuesday nights. So draw you own conclusions.

Yes I cook just about every meal. Eating out is too expensive and the act of cooking a meal is satisfying. People say they can’t cook but I say they can do it. All you have to do is keep trying, go online and read how to cook things there are no excuses, just laziness.
