Time to stock up with holiday clearance sales
Last December I gave a lengthy list of items that are good to buy once the holidays are over (now) and put away for the coming year. 50+% off is hard to beat on some nicer (but way overpriced items).
My favorite tip from that list is to buy plain or solid color wrapping items and use them for birthdays and other gift giving occasions throughout the year. I purchased a variety of curly ribbon bows last year for roughly 25 cents each and used them all year long on birthday packages without having to spend a fortune on them (they were even cheaper than buying bows at the dollar store!).
Another way to save a little dough (you know, so you can afford presents next year!) but not look cheap is to buy the more expensive and luxurious wrapping paper, bags, bows and tissue at the clearance discount price for use next year. It’ll look like you spent a lot, even though you didn’t.
I like to start my shopping for next year right after the holidays and my favorite thing to buy now for next year is ornaments. Unless they are marked with the year (which some are so watch for this!) you can get some great deals on beautiful ornaments (either for gifts or for your own tree).

Santa Claus is coming to… Walmart
This weekend you can get a free photo with Santa at your local Walmart store.
Saturday, Dec. 5 and Sunday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Santa will be ready and waiting for you (in past years I’ve found him in the Garden Center/Holiday area).
Free sure beats the prices you’ll pay for Santa photos at other places.
Our Adventures in Motherhood blogger recently wrote about the unfortunate things that sometimes happen to store Santas (like wet laps) but noted that even with a slight delay, visits with Santa can bring many happy memories.
What are your favorite (or funniest) Santa memories?
