Preview new Christmas gifts, throws, ornaments
Things Remembered has released their new holiday items for a Christmas in July sneak peek. Among the new items are: ornaments, at least 8 new throw blanket designs and more.
And if you’re shopping early and not interested in holiday-themed items, but regular ones instead, they have over 200 items in their clearance section right now. Many of these items can be purchased and saved for future weddings, birthdays and other gift giving occasions as well.

‘Springfield Lanes’ can localize your village display
Whether your miniature village is a Halloween one (Spooky Town) or a Holiday one, I found a piece that should add a local touch to any display. Lemax Village Collection’s “Springfield Lanes.”
I found it available online at KMart’s website for $49.99. The bowling alley building features an inside look at the bowlers inside as well as lighting and signs along the outside of the building. It’s a no snow building so it works in any display.

Spooky Town, Halloween items at Michaels now
It may only be July, but Michaels craft stores put out their first batch of Halloween items within the last week.
I checked the Beavercreek store on Monday evening and discovered the 2009 Spooky Town collection on display (although not fully set up and plugged in yet). The the other half of the aisle (just one side) had other Halloween and autumn items including wreaths, signs and other decor.
As far as the Spooky Town items go, Michaels seems to be carrying a good number of the new items for this year but compared to Lemax’s full list, there are a few buildings and other items that they don’t have. Noticeably absent: The Graveside Diner, Chainsaw’s Lumber Yard and others.
They do have several items exclusive to Michaels this year though and the selection of those items is plentiful. There’s a creepy house called “Morbid Manor,” a “House of Wax,” a motorcycle shop called “Flaming Skull Motorcycles,” a spooky ship called “Transylvania Transport,” and a train set complete with tracks.

Holiday ornament premiere this weekend
Christmas? In July? Yes it’s almost that time again and to kick it off, this weekend (July 11 & 12) Hallmark stores will premiere their 2009 Keepsake Ornament collection.
If you visit a Hallmark Crown Store on those days you can get the first peek at over 170 new ornaments to trim your tree or give as gifts. Their site also promises offers you won’t get any other time as well as some limited quantity items.
As our deals blogger Jill Kelley also pointed out, it’s the time of year to either start shopping (if you haven’t already!) or at least start saving for the holidays.
With that in mind, I spotted a few Lemax holiday village pieces on display at Sears in the Fairfield Commons Mall yesterday. They had a small selection of items, many of which had a Sears/Craftsman connection or element to them. So if you’re a collector or decorator, it won’t be long before you can start stocking up for this year.
It may feel like summer just started but the holidays will be here before you know it. Christmas is 170 days away and Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) is just 142 days away.
