would like to say that Gailz Tattooz in Yellow Springs is the best tattoo. i have gotten 3 tattoos from them now and they are wonderful. Gail gets the sharp edges and tight spaces wonderfully. i have always gone to them, since i got my first tattoo, 15. i have also gotten a few piercings and the guy is sooo funny, he will make you laugh the whole time and you will barely feel the pain, because you aren’t payng attention. Gail is also really clean and serious about her work. she tries to make you as comfortable as possible. :) I preoudly recommend them!

IF you go by how many people have tattoos and who did their tattoos. Stretch’s Tattoo would blow every shop away. How many of you have been tattoo as long as him? 90% of the tattoo shop artist were either in diapers or not even born yet…

All the hate towards one another. what all the shops in ohio Need to be doing is contacting the Governor’s office, local mayors offices & health departments and asking why NO ONES doing anything about the thousands of Illegal home tattoo shops. we shop owners spend alot of time & money to have a nice business and we are slowly losing customers to these un licensed, illegal home, backyard tattooers. we all need to bombard our local officals with emails, phone calls,& letters demanding someone ENFORCE THE LAW and close down all illegal tattoo / piercing shops !!!

I think the BEST TATTOO SHOP IN DAYTON is Oasis Tattoo Company on Woodman Dr. I have gotten a tattoo there and a piercing. I used to go to what is now known as Smartbomb but I thought I’d give Oasis a try and I am so glad I did. My first tattoo came from Glenn Scott’s Shop. When I walked out of there I knew I was never going back. I have a few more tattoo’s to get and I will only go to Oasis Tattoo Company. My favorite artist there is Spyder but the resy of the guys a great there as well.

I vote classy…and Peptide Tattoo Studio wins every time. Matty’s portfolio is amazing…his clients are loyal….and the vibe in the shop is fantastic. If you’ve been around,There’s nothing like going into a tattoo shop for the first time and getting the snob-treatment….so it really makes sense that Peptide Tattoo wins with loyal customers, fantastic artwork and a great experience. In response to Valerie Wesco-Barker’s question as to why Extreme Tattoo in Piqua is on here and her shop, A&A Ink in Troy isn’t, I would say it all comes down to the fact that her one and only artist is a hack. Plus the fact that everyone in the area knows that Extreme uses the money the shop brings in to pay their employees and maintain their supplies and taxes and NOT to take to the methadone clinic to get themselves clean. They don’t owe $20,000+ in back taxes. Quit hatin’ and shut up!!!

I think it’s BlSt that Taylor’s Tattoo & Body Piercing was not on the list??What the hell the shop has been around since 86’ yet no one has put us on your so called list of best Tattoo Shops in Dayton..We are a very friendly and clean shop..Besides that how can people trash these other shops when alot of the artist working out there today have either come from Taylor’s or Glenn Scotts..??Just thought I would put my 2 cents in.

Obviously none of you would have been nominated if you didn’t have clients that respect and trust you. Everyone had a fair to chance to raise votes for themselves. No one controls on who votes or why, regardless if you have a tattoo or not, but word of mouth can make or break you. I had the understanding that all of you were a close knit group of artists that supported each other regardless of what shop you work at. All of you should be grateful for the advertising that you will receive.

I would like to send a big congrats to all the artist at peptide tattoo, I have had alot of tattoo work done at the shop and I have to say that all the artist in that shop are very talented and very good at what they do. I have alot of respect for all the guys there and would not hesitate to get tattooed by any of them. All the artist take alot of pride in there work and do not believe in doing a bad tattoo, and that is why they will always have my business in that shop. CONGRATS PEPTIDE.

I have never seen so much childish BS about who is the “best” tattoo artist - you can have opinions but to say someone is the best, you are judging something you truly know very little about..every client who slams artists who don’t give them free tattoos (YES, that’s how they get their following!). I’d like to see them do the work themselves & see how easy it is! I have NEVER met a tattoo artist without an enormous ego (especially Mr & Mrs Personality Plus Friesen, rudest couple EVER)

What amazes me in this poll, is the fact that most of the people voting, are people that have never had a tattoo. They are just here because of the begging on MySpace and Facebook! Not that it’s the business doing the begging, but other people doing it for them. I’ve been tattooed by several different people, from several of these shops, and seen work from most of the others. So my vote goes to no one! My advice…Strive to be the best but never accomplish it! You’ll loose your edge!

hey….this is way fun!! i really hope people aren’t seriously getting hurt feelings about this poll. it’s strictly opinion. i work at peptide, so naturally, i voted peptide. however, i feel that our work speaks well enough for itself that we don’t have to trash anyone else. we absolutely are one of the best shops in the area and more than deserve to be here. i will, in any case, be back on this thread next week to run burger king fries through the mud…yuck city.

To YEP - if you’d really done research, you’d see Matty’s done shows in Boston, etc across the US - his work has also been featured in major Tat Mags & newspapers. He’s worked for other shops including in Cincinnati, taking clients with him from over the years and opened up his own shop in Carlisle. Don’t know where you did your “research,” but maybe the best research would be just to show up at his shop and check him out. 20 yrs of just hanging out a tat shop shingle doesn’t make you the BEST!

had some tattoos done a few years back at tattoo tech in huber. they looked good and i felt comfortable and welcome at the shop. but over the past year or so, one of the piercers “practices” tattooing on customers. the tattoos look like crap and the manager lets this go on! he even thought it was funny when the guy butchered a young man’s arm. even if the customer knew that the piercer was inexperienced and let him do it anyway, i think it gives the shop a very bad name! i won’t be returning!

Has anyone else noticed that whenever Wells & Co seems to go up a few votes Peptide seems to go ahead right along with them…seems a little odd to me..for example if Wells get 3 votes, Peptide gets 10…strange…and I agree with the post under me…I have never even heard of Peptide before now…

If you think MS is a good shop you haven’t seen the artist at well any of the other shops in Dayton that place is a joke and the guy that runs it is a even bigger joke he should never have started tattooing out of his house and fing people up trust me when i was people just go to him cuz he will tattoo for less then any other shop good tattoos are not cheap cheap tattoos are not good when you cut prices like they do you have to cut corners be it cheap equipment ink or worse sterilization…

20 years ago I had just turned 18 and I stopped by Glen Scott’s shop way up north Main St. and there were a bunch of guys hanging out there that either worked there or thought it was cool to just hang out a tattoo shop. Anyway, I was pretty new to tattoos so I asked a couple questions and they people there were so superior and confrontational and seemed like they were trying so hard to keep up their “tough guy” image that I was pretty turned off by the whole scene.

I agree with “that girl”. I love Modified Skin.. and have a lot of amazing tattoo work from them. Their artists are good at what they do and are some of the friendliest people I’ve EVER met. Those guys are like family. Plus, they actually care about their clientele on a personal level.. and that’s a rare quality nowadays.

me how awful it looks! Wellllll, its already on me and unless I am asking you to cover it up, I probably LIKE my tattoo and for an artist to say bad things about it thinking that may help them get my business, they’re completely wrong. That makes me not want to ever come back to them! So maybe all of you should stop saying bad things about each other and just promote yourself if you think you are the best. Coming from a customers perspective, I don’t want to hear what you think about other shops, I want to hear the things that you think make your shop the best. And if your too busy bashing other shops, then obviously that’s the only way you feel you can get new customers. Well just so you know, talking bad about other shops will def not help you gain my business. In fact, it will do the exact opposite.
And just to state my opinion on some things, I worked at Modified Skin when they first opened. I did the counter and was slowly picking up piercing. I no longer work there and now work at another shop but I am going to speak up on your crap talking because I have ACTUALLY been in this shop and was a part of it at one time. The owner Josh, is a good artist! He doesn’t claim to be the best and he is always honest about that. His work keeps getting better and better and he’s always been focused on learning new things and improving! Justin Sands, the other tattoo artist came from Krazy Katz and has amazing talent! The environment is fun and laid back! No one is ever rude to a customer and its impossible to not laugh when your there! Everyone at Modified Skin treats their customers like a friend, not just someone they are trying to get money from! They may not be the ‘Best of Dayton’ but hands down, they are the friendliest shop around and their work is still good!

I have known Chad Wells for over 20 years and his talent has always amazed me!!!! I am preparing to do a face or eye piece of my 3 year old son even though I’m not a big tattoo person (only have 1) I’m giving Chad full artistic control, for the simple fact that WELLS AND CO. is so utterly fantastic in all of the areas I would look for. They are sterile, gorgeous tattoos, and I feel at the exact perfect price! When you visit Chad Wells you have made the decision to have the absolute best!

MOST ALL of these shops have at least a couple a@@$%*les working there, play obnoxious, offensive music, go for as much money as they can get out of you, and are nice as hell while they make you sick with their “sterile” conditions (ha!), the stench of some piercer lying on top of you to do his job while spending half an hour bragging about himself, it’s one or the other it seems. I have seen work from many artists in the Dayton area and there are some good artist around dayton. I personally think the best artist with a lot of years expert tattooing and runs a very clean shop is Glen Friesen at East Dayton Tattoo located at 1844 S. Smithville Rd. Dayton, Ohio 937-258-3232. I am actually with the Ohio compliance department. I do reviews of many tatoo shops across the state. I was seeing that many listed here are behind on their taxes. While they may be talented artists. it does seem that many can not run their business. I visited one on the list and I saw two gentleman partaking in what I call homosexual activities. Kind of sad as I think it was for some tatoo work. I did imediately leave the facilities and came back a few weeks later.

I have personally met quite a few of the artists that work at these shops and every one of them is great at what they do.
Our shop is a bit too new to be considered for “Best in Dayton”. We will put in our time and maybe one day we will earn that honor. For now… let’s just keep doing great tattoos on everyone!!!

I have had work done at a few shops in the area and wasn’t satisfied with the work from the first two shops at all. Someone told about Josh from Modified Skin and I have been hooked since. The first tat I got from him was when he was in his home studio and he was more professional in his home studio than the first two shops I was in. I have since had 3 more tattoos done in his shop and recommend him highly to everyone. He does beautiful work and I will never go anywhere else.

I have had several tattoos done and a couple from shops on this list and I will only go to Chad Wells at Wells and Co for any major pieces from now on. His shop is clean and comfortable. It is like being tattooed in someones home. Chad is a really good guy and his work is truly art. He is the first artist I have ever trusted enough to go int the shop and say “do whatever you want”. I highly recomend Wells and Co.

Blue byrd is my spot! If dave wasn’t such a b***h it would be way better! His ego is ridiculous. The other artist however are awesome and don’t act like idiots. If dave isn’t at the shop its great when he is go somewhere else

The people a Monkeybones are awesome. The artists are extremely talented, and they are incredibly kind. I’ve always felt welcomed there and not like I am in a building packed with egos. The work that comes out of there is always great. I appreciate you guys a lot.

Wells & Co, without a doubt. No scene, no hos, no cokeheads, no tight pants. All art, all work to be proud of. Most talented in Dayton.
