Abuelos? You have got to be kidding me… For having more than 1,000 restaurants in Greene county, I’m not certain how only 20 were able to participate in this so-called competition.

No Yellow Springs restaurants probably participated because that would have meant leaving Utopia and having to deal with common simple folk not good enough for them. Their money is fine, but not the people themselves.

Packy’s really does not advertise, and is located on directly the base (in an authorized to the public area) so it doesn’t surprise me if a lot haven’t heard of it. The food is really good, and at reasonable prices.

I thought they discontinued the Whopper, glen.

Big Lou’s BBQ on Dayton-Xenia in BC. Pulled pork platter is a lot of tasty food for a reasonable price.

“Over 20 restaurants” were there, and 13 got “awards.” Wow, tough competition. It’s too bad they didn’t get more of the real restaurants to attend.

The Winds is the best restaurant in Greene County.

Any non-chain restaurants with good food and short lines are tops in my book! The fact that people will wait for 1-2 hours to eat mediocre food at many of the places at the Greene (or the dayton mall) is ridiculous! (brio, cheesecake factory, bonefish grill, bravo’s) My wife and I refuse to eat at these fad restaurants with long waits and instead give our business to other smaller locally owned establishments.

WHAT????? Perkins???? Packy’s???? Where are you all from and do you think the Waffle House is fine dining because you can sit down to eat??? What about Flemings or the Cheesecake Factory?

Jeet India Restaurant 2632 Colonel Glenn Hwy, Fairborn, OH across from Wright Straight University is AWESOME for a really great Indian food. I LOVE eating there and go as often as possible. I’d eat there 3-4 times a week if I had the $.

I’m a big fan of Burger King on Seajay drive in Beavercreek. They have this burger, it’s called a “Whopper” and boy is it tasty! Plus it comes with hot fresh fries and the service is impeccable! DE-licious!

I also wonder who was there. Nick’s in Xenia has a really great pork sandwich; everything at The Winds is delicious, as for desserts, there are tasty, but nothing “memorable” in Greene County. If you like frozen cakes, high prices and standard plain Jane cake designs then you should choose bakeries in Greene County. If you want GREAT cake in Greene County ask around, there are many (like myself) who are home bakers that are less expensive (no overhead costs), more creative and friendly!

Saya in Fairborn is fantastic!
The Winds, although pricey, has wonderful dishes.
HA-HA Pizza is totally yummy and has a stellar salad bar.

Judging by the list of winners one could assume that Greene County doesn’t have much to chose from dinig wise, or the reviewers have somewhat ‘limited’ palates. I guess it’s ‘taters an wings’ all the way. All we need is for Vonda to weigh in, and then it’s complete.

Why does everyone think the best restaurants are at the Mall. There are more great restaurants than those in Greene County. Try the Xenia China Inn. It’s the best for Chinese. Nick’s has a wonderful menu also.

Don Pablos? Quite obviously, the voters don’t have very refined palates. Ick.

I wonder how many restaurants participated in this event. I’ve never heard of Packy’s, but I’m glad to see an independent establishment do so well in two categories. Being from BC myself, I would vote for Big Lou’s BBQ pulled pork platter as my favorite entree.

Wine & Dine: More local restaurants are offering wine tasting/dinner pairings [review]

Wine glasses

Some are searching for new customers. Others are looking for a test market for new appetizers or entrees. Others want customer feedback on which new wines to add to the wine list. Whatever their reasons, more restaurants in the Dayton area are using wine tastings and wine dinners to try to get new, fresh faces to cross their doorsteps. A decade ago, diners could easily count on one hand the number of restaurants that held regular wine events. Now, the number exceeds a dozen and is growing. More »
