Jamie Foxx as Sinatra? Real or fake?
And now it’s time to play, Is the Headline Real or Fake!
(insert crowd cheers)
I’m your host, Sir Critic (flashes not-so-pearly whites), and this is the game where YOU get to tell me if an actual headline circulating on the Web is real or fake!
(Insert crowd “Oooohhhh!”)
And I have to tell ya folks, today’s headline is a real humdinger! Here it is: From London’s Daily Telegraph: Jamie Foxx ‘in the running’ to play Frank Sinatra
(Crowd GASPS!)
Yes, folks, the actor who won an Oscar for playing Ray Charles is, IF you believe the Telegraph, in line to play Sinatra in Martin Scorsese’s recently announced biopic. My, Jamie seems to be making his way down the list of legendary departed crooners! There’s no word yet if he’s also playing James Brown or Perry Como, but, hey - with headlines with these, you never can tell!
Then again, this IS the British press quoting “an unnamed source.” And we all know how accurate those kinds of sources are!
Reaction around the Internet is one of general incredulousness, with the Oscar-watching site In Contention responding with the headline: Hahahahahaha.
Here are the questions you must answer:
1) Is the headline real or fake?
2) Could such color-blind casting possibly work for someone as distinct as Sinatra was?
3) Whether it’s fake or not, who should play Sinatra?

Let’s go with the obvious: Foxx is probably in consideration to play Sammy Davis Jr., and the “source” mangled the information.By cookie

Why not Jamie Foxx? After all, Eddie Murphy portrayed an old Jewish Barber Shop patron in “Coming to America”. He certainly has the pipes for it!By Daniel

My guess is fake, and my hope for Hollywood is that it is fake. Changing ‘colours’ only works in comedic contexts. It was slightly acceptable in Tropic Thunder because the movie as a whole was ridiculous, and then there was White Chicks, which really looked like black guys with bad make-up artists. As for who ultimately plays him, it doesn’t truly matter to me because I probably won’t even see it. (Still haven’t seen The Aviator.)By Michelle

It’s fake. There’s also a link that claims Robert Pattinson is in talks to play Sinatra, if that tells you how good these “sources” are. The most credible and most often repeated choice for Martin Scorsese seems to be Johnny Depp to play Sinatra, but Sinatra’s own vocal tracks will be used.By Kim S.

I’ll go with fake, but nothing would surprise me. Maybe he’s chasing the reverse of RDJ’s GG nod. As far as who should play Sinatra, I’ll go with Harry Connick Jr. playing Sinatra with Michael Buble playing the Marni Nixon role, singing behind him.
